Wow what a weekend at my guild’s 28th annual show! The theme was “Generations of Stars” and we honored our founding members that are still active in the guild. Those founding members created something special and I get to enjoy the benefits from all their work and dedication.

It was a spectacular show, by far our best and we had superb work from every genre. I was honored with a First Place and Best Machine Quilting Ribbon on “Emerge” as well as a Member’s Choice for “Mom’s Lily Bed” (unjudged) and I’m grateful for that. I think this will be a two or maybe three part post because I just don’t know when to stop when it’s my home guild!

Starting in the “Small Quilt Room”:

I am proud of how professional and well-set up our show is. It looked like an international show to me-the quality was so high and the set up was superb. What follows are just a few of the quilts in the Small Quilt Room.

I was drawn into this piece, “Garden Tapestry” by Marketa Essex. I think she hand inked and penciled all the details on the leaves, flowers and insects.

This photo shows just some of the exquisite details that were scattered throughout the piece and drew you in for a closer look. There was hand embroidery and beading also.

This quilt was just so well done by Dana Lahargoue. Dana traveled to Tennessee  for a class with Cindy Blackberg to create “Tennessee Tribute”. It is hand pieced and quilted, beautiful and sweet.

Patty Martin was in a 60′s mood and created “Dazed and Confused”. Patty photo transferred images from the 60′s onto both sheer and opaque fabrics to create this.

The close up shows how she highlighted the dichotomy of the 60′s- the good and the bad.

Deb Winterling’s, “Making Waves” was made from a pattern in “Modern Quilts Illustrated”. I like the edited simplicity of it and it just left me with a fun, beachy feel.

Sue Garmston’s “Mountain Aspens” was made after a 3-day workshop with Jean Wells in Sisters, Or. This is Sue’s interpretation of a painting of aspen trees by a lake, with mountains in the background. The pieced center is separate and sits atop the gray piece. I enjoyed the detail of the extra line of color at the bottom of the piece.

Anne Ross’ “Belles Plumes” was just a hoot. It’s hard to tell from my photo, but underneath the peacocks is a bra-stuffed with socks for dimension! (Not that any of us ever did THAT in 7th grade!) Anne made this piece in response to the monthly challenge in our art quilt group to respond to the word “feminine”.

This is the back of the piece. Anne said that she thought the bra would wrap around the back and hook, but it did not. So, what does an art quilter do when the bra on your quilt will not hook? Add panties to fill the gap, of course! And, there was a sign on the quilt to note the “Back Art”-how punny.

Nancy Burnett’s, “A Few of My Favorite Things” was absolutely charming. My photo does not show its beauty well. I loved the dimension of the quilting by Lin Squires, the details throughout the piece and who could resist the concept of “favorite things” in a quilt?

Nancy created some of her own motifs to add like the Corgi puppy and “quilts”.

Donna Brennan’s mini quilt, “Meeting in the Morning” was full of detail and charm. Again the photo does not capture it all: button, beads, hand embroidery, precision piecing and great use of color. This was a part of a mini challenge, and Donna and Helen Hardwick were paired for the challenge. Donna created the focal center and Helen completed the borders. Helen would be quick to tell you that border was NOT paper pieced (she’s just that good)!
