Craft Napa and a $500 Giveaway!

December 3, 2015

I am passionate about free motion quilting-have you noticed? I am also passionate about teaching/enabling others to free motion quilt their own work. And I am so excited to be a part of Pokey Bolton’s brand new art retreat, Craft Napa.

Unknown-2This week I’m part of a blog hop with my fellow teachers and there is a big grand prize drawing that happens at the end of the hop-a $500 gift certificate to eQuilter! Simply leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered into the drawing! If you followed the whole blog hop and commented on each one, you’d up your chances…just sayin’. Imagine what you could do with that gift certificate…

Craft Napa is Jan 7-9, 2016 in, you guessed it, Napa, California. My fellow bog hoppers and teachers are excited about this new venue and concept. I hope you can join us in beautiful Napa Valley and play. There are workshops in collage, quilting, sketching, printmaking, painting, art journaling, and mixed media. And when you’re not in a workshop you can enjoy outstanding wine and cuisine in the area-what’s not to like?

black-and-white-large-front

I’ll be teaching three 6-hour workshops:
-Intro to Fearless Free Motion Quilting
-Fearless Fills and Frills
-Free Motion Stitching for Modern and Contemporary Stitching

No matter what kind of quilter/artist you are, at some point your work needs to be quilted. Why not join me and learn how to personalize your quilts with free motion quilting? It is SO satisfying to quilt your own work and express yourself with needle and thread! I am excited to be offering a full range of workshops. You can sign up for them here.

Intro-Lyons

Intro to Fearless Free Motion Quilting starts at the very beginning and we play with a variety of motifs to get you on your way to creating your own style. I will cover all the important decisions you make before you even begin to stitch that have a huge impact on your quilting. And it will be fun and light hearted-I promise. I know so many quilters are intimidated by free motion quilting but I can help! We’ll take baby steps to get you started.

Lyon-Frills-and-FillsWEB

Fearless Fills and Frills is for quilters that have some experience and want to learn more motifs and fills to add variety and personality to their quilting. We’ll cover a variety of motifs: borders, fills and dividers. You don’t have to be a pro yet-we’ll build on the skills you already have. You just need to have some basic comfort with free motion quilting.

Lyon-ModernWEB

And Free Motion Stitching for Modern and Contemporary Stitching is for Modern/Contemporary quilters that want to learn how to quilt all that negative space and give your quilt a Modern look. This workshop is also aimed at those with some experience in free motion quilting.

Please, write me if you are thinking about a class but unsure if it meets your needs. Let’s chat and figure that out!

You only have until Dec 15th to register! And don’t forget to make your hotel reservations. Pokey has secured incredible discounted rates at the gorgeous Embassy Suites-I have never seen rates like that in Napa Valley.

So here’s the blog hop schedule, along with the links. The teacher line-up is First Class-I pinch myself to think that I am teaching alongside these artists!

I realize part of my problem in free motion is not being able to relax and just do it. I think free motion quilting is like writing. Nora Roberts says just put you butt in the chair and write. So here I go. Butt to chair. I’m free motioning. Don’t laugh.

I really admire people who do free motion. I have tried it many times, and it always looks awful. I am just too stiff and controlled. How do people do something different and still have it look good?

Jenny, if anyone needs to learn to be fearless in free motion, that would be me! Your work is just stunning, and I so wish I could join you all at Craft Napa and take one of your classes. However, something exciting is happening for the next few months….my husband hired a contractor to close in our 3-car garage to make a big sewing room for me. I am absolutely ecstatic to finally have a room where I can have all my machines out at the same time and organize all my fabrics and tools better. I wish you all success and will be with you in spirit!

I’ve been following Pokey’s blog and QA before that. I was thrilled when she posted that she had purchased the property in Napa and what she was going to do with it! It has been amazing to follow along with her on her journey through her blog posts. I can’t be at this first retreat, but I’m really excited for everyone who will be there! I would love to take every class being offered! Since I’m way over here on the East Coast I’m saving money throughout 2016 so I can go for another retreat and hopefully, stay longer than the retreat!
