A Finish!

By Jenny | January 15, 2026 |

I’ve been working on a smock type garment that I thought would be useful when I’m teaching. I’ve seen several other teachers use pop-over-your-clothing type of smocks to teach in. Since I regularly misplace my phone, pencil, Square, etc. it seemed like a good idea. I’m not totally happy with it… yet. It may just need a few washes or different styling: Okay, that is an incredibly unflattering photo, but beyond that, I am disappointed at how it kicks out at the hem. I’m going to walk through the construction and pattern and you’ll see why that happened. I really…

Tucson Christmas, 2025

By Jenny | January 8, 2026 |

NOTE: I’ve got two posts today, link to wedding post here. Some of my posts are almost a personal travelogue. This is one of those. Our youngest son and new DIL live in Tucson and where better to spend Christmas than in Tucson? This trip was unlike any previous trip as I was on my scooter. We stayed at La Paloma which is very hilly. I’m not crying in my beer here, but the scooter kept me from some of my favorite things to do in Tucson: Sabino Canyon and walking the enormous and beautiful resort. Our next visit will…

The Wedding!

By Jenny | January 8, 2026 |

NOTE: I’ve got two posts today, link to my Christmas post here. I’m just now getting to a post about my son’s wedding in Tucson, Arizona. There is no quilty content here, but a photo heavy post all about the wedding. It was spectacular! Jason and Alie planned a beautiful, intimate wedding with well thought out details. Sixty people were in attendance and I think that was a perfect number; we all got to talk and know one another. Alie is from Colombia and I would guess there were about 20 guests from Colombia. I forgot to ask if it…

Quilt National at the San Jose Quilt and Textile Museum

By Jenny | December 18, 2025 |

NOTE: I am not sure if I will post next week, Dec 24. I may post on the 31st; I’ll play that one by ear. I drove 2.5 hours to the San Jose Quilt and Textile Museum to hear a talk by Nancy Bavor about their current exhibit, section A of Quilt National. I saw the entire show during my Midwestern trip last summer and wrote about it here. I posted a ton of photos in that post so I’m not posting photos here. I was able to indulge and spend hours with the exhibit when I visited The Dairy Barn…

Holiday this ‘n that

By Jenny | December 11, 2025 |

It’s hard to be exciting when you’re kind of stuck in the house not bearing weight on one foot! I have gotten into my sewing room a bit so I do have a bit to share. A few weeks ago I made a fun pillow sham for my Aunt who is in assisted living. I hope it makes her days a little brighter! My cousin’s wife is a primary caretaker for her and thought of the idea of having a cheerful set of pillow shams. She sent off to Etsy for a quilt that I could cut up. I was…

Thanksgiving 2025

By Jenny | December 4, 2025 |

It was NOT a “normal” Thanksgiving! Yeah, I am non-weight bearing on my left foot, some sort of heel injury. We don’t know what caused it; my MRI is scheduled for the 16th. No, it is not plantar fasciitis. It hurts when I put weight on it. Fortunately it does not hurt at all if there is no weight. It could be a lot worse! Thanksgiving dinner, and the meals for the following 2 days, were prepared with me scooting around the kitchen. This was approved by my Podiatrist. It did have its drawbacks: Red light therapy was needed! Temporarily…

Pioneer Quilt Show – 2025

By Jenny | November 19, 2025 |

UPDATE: I haven’t posted a blog or newsletter for 2 weeks! I was having back spasms which rendered me unable to sit at a computer. That was no fun, but thankfully it was a fleeting thing, not a condition. Now I am dealing with an unrelated heel pain issue; oy! I don’t know what caused it, but my Podiatrist and General agree that I need to be off it for 4 – 6 weeks. So I got a knee scooter and I’ll be scooting around for a few weeks.  The Quiltskipper cannot skip! If you know me, you know I…

Maybe next week

By Jenny | November 13, 2025 |

Hi everyone. I ghosted you last week because I was having back spasms; sitting at a computer was impossible. I am still having them, much more mild and I am on the mend. I’ve only had this maybe 2 other times. I don’t remember ever being down for the count for a week in my entire life except childbirth/pregnancy. What a blessing to be able to say that! I don’t do “still” well and maybe that is what I am supposed to be learning. I am cared for well using both eastern and western medicine methods. I expect to be…

New England Quilt Seminar – 2025

By Jenny | November 6, 2025 |

I am still catching up, going into the Way Back Machine. I taught for the first time at New England Quilt Seminars, Sept 21 – 25, 2025 and I loved it! It is David Taylor’s vision come to life; the mission of NEQS is to “present workshops by highly-sought-after professional instructors in a relaxed, inspiring environment. Small class size, comfortable work stations and individual attention for each student is paramount to our success.” Set in Waterville Valley New Hampshire, the seminar is intimate and unique. Class size is limited to 12; I absolutely loved that! And it is the type…

Houston Int’l Quilt Festival 2025: Market, classes and people

By Jenny | October 30, 2025 |

This is my last post on this year’s Houston Int’l Quilt Festival (and Market); previous posts are here, here, and here. I arrived 2 days early so that I could view the quilts and attend Market. Market is for industry professionals only, so shops, vendors, and buyers will be in attendance, as well as other industry professionals. I spent much of the first day viewing the quilts. I juried the show with David Taylor and Sarah Ann Smith, and I wanted to see the show hung and also see what ribbons the judges awarded. I also wanted to take lots…
