Good Vibrations
Okay, it might seem like I’m skipping around from project to project, but really, I’m not…kinda.
I work in a pretty small space and I find it difficult to work on more than one thing at a time. It does keep me focused and I really do finish my projects-I have to before I can move on to the next one.

I’ve got a deadline on this one so I had to move it up the chain. It looks pretty simple but there’s more to it than meets the eye. The requirement for this piece is that only 8″ will show. I am learning: the smaller the project, the more on-target the design must be.

I’m also trying to make this somewhat of a color story, using value as well as color to convey depth. And of course, I want the quilting to be spectacular. None of these design features can be too overwhelming in a diminuitive piece like this. Geez, if I knew what I was doing I would crank this out in an afternoon.
Instead, I have spent hours auditioning threads by weight, content and color.

And working with different fills. And trying to get a decent grid-did you know that grids are the absolute hardest thing to do? If you have one tiny little wobble in a line it shows. All this is fun though and a learning curve for the next project.

I’m calling this one “Good Vibrations”. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

I’m so in awe of your work. What an incredible amount of detail in 8″ x 8″. I see your work and I have to pinch myself to remind myself that I do have some talent, because I look at what you do and know that I couldn’t do it in a zillion years! Can’t wait to see the finished piece.

I’m still working on this tiny piece Joan! I can’t believe the path this has taken.
