Seeing Red

February 14, 2011

I’m decompressing from all the work of my guild’s show and I see my surroundings with new eyes. And everywhere I look, it’s red-and not because it’s Valentine’s Day! I just have  to share all this red with you.

I love this red Cordyline set amongst the blue/gray/green of the Hen n Chicks-it’s just so dog gone pretty this time of year. When it’s back lit from the sun it just glows red/pink.

I don’t know the name of these trees but they line one of the streets going to my house. For most of the year they are non-descript, yet each winter they produce this lush crop of bright red berries right in the dead of winter. All this red set against the bare tree is gorgeous.

Every December my Mom sends a potted Amarylis to me so that it blooms in late January/early February. The Amarylis this year is outrageous-it’s 9″ wide and boldly red.

We got a hard frost in early December and the Nandinas responded by going to this vibrant, outrageous, showy red. It’s almost worth the hit the rest of my tender plants took from the frost.

I’m loving all this red!

I can just feel you subconsciously absorbing the grace and beauty for it to become a part of your artistic psyche! Do I see a red project in your future?
