Still Organizing….
I had no idea the monumental task I was undertaking when I decided to organize my stash. DH called me a “whirling dervish” (in the nicest way!).

I decided to take over #1 Son’s room use an existing closet for storage. First thing was to get all the stuff-my car was filled with boxes and containers-none of this is cheap!
I thought it would take an afternoon, two days max. So far, I think I have put over 50 hours into this and I’m on Day 6.

I started out using the Polar Notions cards to wrap my fabric around. It’s a great system, but pretty pricey.
I remembered Carla Barrett had blogged about a system she discovered using comic book cards. I found them at a local store and my starter pack was (gasp!) 300 cards. I won’t tell you how many times I went back for more…
They also have these cool boxes into which the cards fit perfectly-it’s a great system of storage. I can easily see and access my fabrics.

I painstakingly organized all of my paints, markers, lace, trims, beads, buttons, tools, and other miscellany into the clear boxes.
Larger yardages of garment fabrics went into more of the clear boxes. All of my fat quarters went into smaller clamshell clears for easy access.

Of course none of this could have been possible without the close supervision of The Basset-in-Chief. He made sure everything was well thought out and organized.

The only real problem is that some of the overflow from the storage room made it’s way to the sewing room which now looks like this. Guess I have a ways to go on this one!

While I’ve been organizing, we have been hit with a spell of fog here in northern California, the kind that can last all day. It can be depressing, but look at this scene of dew dripping off one of my grasses. Lovely, huh?

Love this – I was so impressed when I saw the wonderful boxes filled so perfectly. Then I saw the picture of your sewing room.

Yup, gotta work on that room. There’s still the extra bedroom and the attic and the garage…..

totally relate! my stuff started expanding out of my office/studio into the linen closet, then the overflow started to spill into the guestroom closet. i justify that it’s “okay because it’s a neat overflow”! LOL!
keep the fun stories coming.

Neat overflow-better than messy overflow….
