ASG Garment Group Fashion Show

August 14, 2011

My American Sewing Guild garment group held an informal fashion show this week. My co-leader Anita hosted it at her lovely home and we enjoyed a delightful afternoon of fashion, food and friendship. It turned out to be like attending a high-end seminar-as each person showed her garment, she related what she learned about the fabric, pattern, particular technique, fitting, etc.-very instructive.
.
One member cut into DH’s ties to create the binding for her couture tank-a clever touch. Apparently she likes the technique so much that he doesn’t have many ties left, poor guy! This member used a Marfy pattern for this fabulous top. We were impressed-Marfy patterns have neither pictures nor directions! Sometimes we see ready-to-wear garments that we want to remake in our own style. Here our member purchased this vest that she wants to remake her way, with her fabrics. We all loved this frothy vest and I think everyone tried this on. We have focused on pants lately and there were a couple of perfectly fit pants. Perfectly fit pants are incredibly flattering on every body shape. One of the best tools in our box is an amazing video by Patti Palmer on tissue fitting pants-without a helper! The photo below is an old one, as no one wanted to show a photo of their lower half-go figure. We make accessories too! This beautiful purple/pink/seafoam/blue scarf was free form crocheted-isn’t it wonderful? .This was the signature image for the day-isn’t this just the cutest? Her shoes were pretty cool too!  What a great group of women! We all crave beautifully fit clothing that flatters. We know that the very best way to get that is to make it yourself. Hope you enjoyed this!

Still working on that “Ordianay Objects Make Fabulous Fills” tutorial-I haven’t forgotten!

You’re right, Jenny. It was a fantastic day with so many great tips and ideas we can all use in our sewing projects. Having such a group to seek advice from is invaluable. Have you, Anita and Nancy as our leaders just adds to the joy.

Wow, this was a long time ago and I still have yet to make the vest inspired by my ready-made. Reading postings on your site inspires me to get started….oh wait, I did start…I mean finish what I started. Finding the right fabric to start with was/is a challenge! I did start embroidering on a netting…….what a potential outcome.
