PIQF Part 1-World Quilt Collection Photos
I was able to spend the tiniest bit of time last week at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara. I’ve split my images into two posts: here I have included photos of the “World Quilt Competition XV: On Tour” section as well as the “A Slice of Oz” exhibit by Gloria Loughman. The name of each piece and its maker will appear if you scroll your mouse over the image.
This first section highlights Australian Gloria Loughman’s work: Gloria Loughman’s work is amazing. I would love to know how she achieves this kind of luminosity with her thread work.
This section shows some quilts from the “World Quilt Competition XV: On Tour section which highlights award winning quilts from around the world.
This quilt was worked by the mother/daughter team of Sophie and Margaret Willis -it’s much more complex than it might appear. If you know me, you know how much I love silk. Brigitte Morgenroth used the luminous qualities of silk to high advantage.I was stunned by this piece-it looked machine quilted but in reality it was exquisitely hand quilted by Jacquie Harvey with the tiniest, most perfect stitches I have ever seen!
Apparently there are more sun flares than normal, making the Northern Lights more readily visible. This piece captures that with Helen Granville’s expert use of reverse applique, thread and quilting.
Griet Lombard savored the construction of this quilt, hence the name. She notes that it calmed her soul and created space for introspection.
I’ll have another post coming soon with more photos. I love going to these shows!
