Pioneer Quilt Guild Show-2012
It’s the Fall Quilt Show Season! The Pioneer Quilt Guild Show moved to more spacious quarters this year and the quilts showed so much better. I had a great time at the show, spent too much money at the boutique and got some photos to share.
I have to say upfront that my photos are not the best. It’s a combination of strong light from the skylights, crowded aisles, operator error and I swear my camera is doing weird things with color.“Baskets For Mom”, by Mary Hammarin. This caught my eye right away. Sometimes a quilt really sings when you have it all right: color, design, construction and quilting that makes the quilt. I think Mary really got it right on this one.Her quilting was beautiful and enhanced the quilt. Wow, perfect points and lovely applique!“Strips and Curves” by Valerie Price, quilted by Paula Thompson. I liked the way Valerie combined her “strips and curves” with broiderie purse cut outs. The design flowed so well and I enjoyed her color selections.“Baltimore’s Last Stand” by Betty Kisbey, quilted by Lin Squires. Two experts combined here for a beautiful Baltimore. Betty does expert applique, color selection and construction. And Lin Squires added just the right touch with some beautiful quilting that made the applique pop. This is just such a beautiful combination of quilting, applique and color. Betty said after making 7 Baltimore’s, this was her last stand!“Atomic Bomb” by Lana LaPlante. Lana was inspired by a photo in an Australian quilt magazine. I love the color and whimsy of this quilt! This has got to make you smile.“Shell Collection” by Margo Wilson. Margo made this quilt from a pattern that she found. I think her quilting and colors made the quilt. It got a lot of attention from the crowd.“A Flower Garden For Micah” by Judy Osa, quilted by Judy Hooper. Judy made this quilt for her granddaughter Micah. She mentioned that it was a bit more complicated than she planned-common problem! Lovely, fun, colorful quilt.“Sunflower Sunrise” by Diane Dowling.Diane made this striking 3-dimensional quilt from a Mount Redoubt Designs pattern. I love the detail, dimension and the addition of the crystals.“Stars at the Silk Farm” by Judi Hein. I know this photo is really out of focus, but the following detail shot would not make sense without a general feel of the quilt. Judi took a class from Dorothy Bennett which inspired this quilt. I am assuming she used tie silk. Many of us commented that this the best “tie silk” quilt we had seen-I love this vibrant color!I really like this quilt. Judi must enjoy stripes because she also made a lovely quilt for the boutique that I snatched up-I’m tickled to get it.I am not sure where it will go in my home but I am loving the stripes, design and color of this quilt!
