Long Beach and Houston!
I am so excited to be teaching at the International Quilt Festivals at both Long Beach (August) and Houston (Oct). If you’ve never been to an IQF show, you’re in for a treat! They know how to do a show and it’s a quality experience all the way. I am so thrilled to be teaching with some of the best teachers in the world. Taking a class at an IQF event is exciting-you get to learn from some of the best teachers out there and your fellow students might be from a country you’ve never been to.
I’ll be teaching two classes at both shows. In Long Beach I’ll be teaching “You CAN Free Motion Quilt!” and “Lazy Daisy Table Topper”. The free motion quilting class is designed for beginners and I provide an encouraging and light-hearted atmosphere for you to learn in. And yes, you really CAN begin to free motion quilt your own work-it’s not rocket science! I will work through several varied motifs and I choose to do that for good reason. I know that each quilter’s mind works differently and each student typically finds one or two motifs much easier than the rest. I want each student to “land” on one or two motifs and feel like they CAN quilt!
And I’ll also be demonstrating “The Easy Way to Fabulous Free Motion Feathers” during the Friday Sampler at both Long Beach and Houston. Samplers are fun! There will be continuous demos by several teachers with subjects ranging from stabilizers to sashiko and you can just freely drift from presenter to presenter as your interests guide you. It’s a great way to figure out whether a particular technique is one that is worth investing in.
In the Lazy Daisy Table Topper class we’ll make an adorable table topper that is reversible. Using very basic free motion techniques you can create the topper and cut out the negative space to reveal the beauty of the motif. The really cool thing about this class is that this technique can be used so many different ways-in your quilts, in home dec or even to embellish ready-made garments. I will bring lots of ideas for ways to use this technique.
I’ll also be presenting in Houston on “Ordinary Objects Inspire Fabulous Free Motion Fills” during the Machine Quilter’s Forum. I’ll be a part of a panel of 6 experienced teachers and each of us will present on our subject, then students will spend 15 minutes with each teacher as she demonstrates her topic. This event always sells out so sign up early!
Make sure you check out the catalogue here and here to see all the exciting classes offered. There are 111 teachers from all over the world offering 356 classes and 34 lectures! There are Fashion Shows and fun dances and tours. And vendors-oh my there are enticing vendors with the most fabulous offerings. It’s such a treat!
So sign up and tell your friends and your friend’s friends-it’s going to be lots of fun!

Jenny, I remember the first class I think you ever taught. It wasn’t even FMG. It was machine needle felting. You were just beginning and trying to get comfortable teaching. Look at you now. It wasn’t that long ago. You have come a long way, baby! ;-)
Jenny says
Thanks Marcia! I cringe thinking about being a new teacher. That was a trajectory changing moment for me-I thought you and Darlene were just the coolest! You talked passionately about ASG-and the rest is history!
Kris says
You are one busy lady! Your students will be so lucky. I know, I was one of your students!
Jenny says
Thank you Kris! I am so excited and I have a lot of preparing to do!

Thank you for the encouragement Laura! I’m doing prep now-had no idea how much prep was involved.
