Prepping For Long Beach
International Quilt Festival Long Beach is only 2 weeks away and I’m in the midst of making up kits and preparing for my classes. I have yards and yards of fabric to Mistyfuse and cut for my “Lazy Daisy Table Topper” class and mounds of batting and fabric to make into sandwiches for my “You CAN Free Motion Quilt!” class.
I am enjoying this process even though it is taking me way longer than I anticipated. My Free Motion Quilting students will be stitching on luscious Ultra Sateen which is so soft and glowing. I am using two colors of the sateen for the Table Topper class-it is just divine to the touch. All this makes putting the kits together a tactile experience.
I’m also playing around with the same technique that I use in the Table Topper class on garments:
I took my Target denim shirt and “bubbled” the collar-I really like the way this turned out.
I’ve got lots of other samples to show how versatile this technique is for readymade or custom sewn garments, home dec and of course quilts. This is just a peek at one of the samples. I’m getting excited about Long Beach-can’t wait!
Wish I could be there! I would LOVE to take your class!
Thanks for your sweet comments about my newest quilt “Syzygy”. I loved piecing it!
I would love to meet you Kelly-we would have great fun getting to know each other!
Wow, you make the sandwiches for them? Lucky students! Have a great time!
Yes Roxane I kitted my class as the IQF people suggested-lot ‘o work! But they say that many students prefer that. The bad part is that when you include the kit price along with machine rental, class fee and the registration fee, it’s pretty pricey. It will be interesting to see how many sign ups I have.
Jenny, I love the shirt collar treatment! Pricey or not a class with you is a bargain. I hope to have a chance to learn from you again some day.
Oh you are so kind Marcia! Truly I am not expecting many students in Long Beach: it’s their last year there (moving to Portland) and most do not know me. I am looking forward to teaching there though!
Jenny, congratulations on teaching at Long Beach and Houston. You are a bright and shining star. Your students will love you.
What kind words Connie-thank you! I am doing massive prep so I hope it’s worth it!
That denim shirt is just yummy!! Who won’t want to take that class with samples like that!
Thanks Kris! That one was quick to do too.
That collar looks fabulous! Did you trim away between the bubbles like cutwork? I love it! Have fun with your classes?
Yes I did cut out the negative space between the bubbles-it was a pretty quick project too. Thank you!
I love this, Jenny. What a great way to update clothes in the closet. The lucky Long Beach students.
Thanks Kay-it is an easy way to embellish an existing blouse!
