Yes, I Am Easily Amused

September 3, 2013

I get the biggest kick out of the antics of my plantings-probably more than a normal person should! Case-in-point: it’s ridiculous what one of my larger succulents has done over the summer.

Mother Plant

So this is the scene of the crime. I wanted something tall for one of my outdoor succulent pots. I found this guy at a local big box store at the beginning of the summer.

New Baby Nursery
New Baby Nursery

This is what I call the New Baby Nursery-each one of those saucer-like things at the end of each branch of the mother plant produces a bunch of seeds. And apparently they sprout pretty easily. Look at this crop-there are hundreds of babies!

Babies

Soon there were these little tiny guys growing all over like crazy…

Teenager

And some eventually became teenagers. I don’t know why but I am just so thrilled to see all this proliferation going on. I find it fascinating and charming. I kinda feel “peacock proud and hyena happy”, as though I had something to do with it. I go out every day and check on them, as though I could tell if there were any more new babies!

What vibrant color!

This guy started the summer in a 3″ pot and stood about 4″ tall-now he’s 42″ tall. Told you-I’m easily amused!

Your boys left you with an empty nest and you are filling it with plants. At least they don’t talk back. Beautiful pictures.

That’s a chuckle! Yes, I guess I did fill that void with plants!!

I love succulents. Had an indoor one for a long time that finally bloomed these massive stinky flowers that popped out from a huge pod. You have a lovely garden of them. Enjoy them without any guilt, they are marvelous.

I can see every bit of the beauty and interest that you have in your plants! Succulents are especially interesting with their unusual, rather weird, growth habits! And the colors. Let us see more of your succulents.

Thanks for the interest Aileyn! I can’t help myself-I love my cacti and succulents and I’m sure I will be posting more photos over time. They are just so fascinating!

Jenny – To me, it doesn’t seem the least bit unusual that you are amused by things in your garden. I am amused and fascinated by a wonderful eye candy called quilts – the interesting colors, textures, shapes and sizes – I just can’t get enough. I would imagine that this is true for most quilters, and many non-quilters too. Your succulents are nature’s “quilts” – a fabulous “show and tell” in your garden with wonderful colors, textures, shapes and sizes.

Kind words Schatzi! I love your view of this-yes, my succulents are quilts!!
