Gold Bug Quilt Show 2015
It’s the beginning of the Fall Quilt Show season-yippee! The first show in my area is the Gold Bug show, which is always a good one. This year they had more space and even better lighting, which made for a better show. The Gold Bug guild has a nice mix of quilters of all genres: applique, spectacular piecers, great quilting and this year, some nice Modern quilts in the mix. Enjoy:
This was a show stopper for me. I was surprised to find out that Paula used commercial fabrics for this. She added embellishments, inked and quilted shadows and added wool batting.
I like how Melissa’s fabric choices created some lost edges on some of the blocks-charming in my book. Melissa used her trusty hammer to get some of those seams flat!
There were some delightful Modern quilts in the mix. Sherry used a pattern available on the Robert Kaufman website. She quilted it in one day!
I know my photo is blurry but I had to include this because it was so charming and beautiful.
There was no information on the card as to inspiration, etc. I thought this was adorable and I’d love to have a happy tote like this.
This quilt is Dorene’s tribute to her husband’s Grandmother Patsy, who taught her and many others how to quilt. The center panel is primarily white fabric which Dorene hand-painted. Patsy’s family and friends wrote on the fabric surrounding the center panel.
Paula used puff paint, actual sand and pebbles and some sheer fabrics; inspired by a class with Linda Schmidt. Don’t you just want to sink your toes into the sand?
Mary started this Sue Spargo quilt in a class at Quilters’ Corner. She had a hard time following the directions so she headed off on her own. I love the Sue Spargo look.
This is the second of a series of original seasonal quilts by Inger. It is a true two-sided quilt that Inger has hand painted and exquisitely quilted.
This is Theresa’s second quilt-a Lone Star! I love her fabric choices-what a strong visual impact. Theresa notes that for every three seams she sewed, she ripped out two, yet the center came together perfectly-bravo!
I hope you enjoyed your tour of the Gold Bug Show. Please note that I’m limited by my photography skills-some photos of spectacular quilts were just not unusable. It was a great show!
I’ll be linking up with Nina Marie’s Off the Wall Friday so check out this week’s links.

It was! Bet you have fabulous shows in Portland!

The quilts are great to view. I enjoy your comments. I find the card attached to each quilt distracting. Too bad they don’t have a way to identify the quilts without attaching it to the quilt itself.
Jenny says
Thank you Judy. Yes, I wish there were an easier way to do that. Our guild struggles with the best way to do signage on quilts also.

Thanks for sharing all these left coast goodies. To often I see the same quilts in show after show, so it’s great to see some new to me quilts.
Jenny says
I never thought of it that way Joanna. I’ll bet shows on your coast would look very different to me also. It was a great show.

You’re welcome Mary-I love to share the beauty!

A great mix! I agree that first one is a show stopper – nice to be able to view a quilt show from the comfort of my couch:-)
Jenny says
Thanks Carol-I bring the quilt show to you!
