Off to BERNINA U!

June 29, 2018

This will be a short post as I am running behind in getting ready to leave for BERNINA U in Chicago. I’ll be there from Wed, June 26-Mon July 1. I’m taking a little extra time to spend with Catherine Redford and we are sure to get in a little bit of trouble!

BERNINA U is an event that I don’t know a lot about. It is geared mainly towards dealers but this year is BERNINA’s 125th anniversary and they are adding BERNINA Ambassadors like me to the mix. I’m excited!

It was a little tricky packing for this event: there are 4 days of meetings, plus I’m tacking on a day before and a day after. And to complicate things there is a formal Gala on the last night and a dressy reception the first night. I had to pull out my Little Black Dress, heels and HOSE! OMG! I am taking 5 pairs of shoes because I need them. I suspect my biggest challenge will be sitting on my butt for 4 days. Oh I do not do well sitting!

I was able to finish another sample for Start With a Square. I’ll take this along to show anyone interested what I do and teach.

My finished piece is around 20″ square. I like the way this one turned out.

You can see the square I started out with. This class is so much fun! We learn a variety of motifs in class and it changes with each group. It is free-flowing and loose and students love it! It has become my most popular class.

I start out with a basic idea and then have fun filling in the blanks. I have plans to do a more formal, pieced version that might even end up a competition piece. Okay, gotta go pack all those clothes. Next week I’ll post about my fabulous visit to the North/South Quilters Guild of Reno, NV-what a blast! I’ll link up with Nina-Marie’s Off the Wall Friday. Onward!

First of all, your Start With a Square project is AMAZING! I love everything about it — the colors, the traditional look of the embroidered bird who crosses seamlines in a very modern, outside the box(square!) kind of way, and of course your FMQ is amazing as usual. I did not realize you were a Bernina Brand Ambassador! Which machine are you exploring for the Ambassador program? I am so, SO jealous that you are going to BU. I hope you have a wonderful time, that your pantyhose resist sagging or running, and mostly I hope you will share LOTS OF EXCITING NEW BERNINA GOODIES when you return home!

Thank you Rebecca Grace-I love that process! I am a Loyalist which means I have my own machine and just do what I do and hopefully influence others to love the brand as I do. BUT, there’s news!!! The new 4 series is truly amazing with machines weighing 22 lbs, have the big old honkin bobbin, BSR (one model, others BSR compatible) on a standard sized machine! And more really cool stuff. I’ll write more later
