My Blog Hop starts today! Want a free book?
UPDATE NOTE: Comments are now closed on this post.
Wahoo! Welcome to my very first blog hop! I have convinced nine of my incredibly talented friends to join me and each of us will be giving away a free, signed copy of my book. Here’s how it works:
Every day from now through Dec 10, each blogger will post an article about my book on their day. They will be sharing their tips, tricks and even a project or two. I actually don’t know what they will be posting so I’m excited to see what happens! If you visit their website and comment on their post, you will automatically be entered to win a free, signed copy of my book. For your comment, tell us what your favorite thread is and why. It will be fun to see the answers.
A few notes about the hop:
– You can enter each day but can only win once.
– Each blogger will leave the comments open for 8 days and then will choose a winner using a random method.
– I will send winners a signed copy of my book.
– If you find a blog along the way that you find interesting, sign up to receive notices of each future posting. This is a talented group!
– International winners will receive a digital copy.
The more the merrier-feel free to pass my post on to others so that we can all play along.
Here’s the schedule:
Dec 1 Jenny K. Lyon https://quiltskipper.com/
Dec 2 Lisa Chin http://www.lisachinartist.com/

I have taken your quilting class twice. I would love to win a copy of your book!
Hope this is spot for comment, and would love to win a copy!!
I love your work and hope to take an in-person class someday. I use mostly isacord or glide thread.
So excited for you as an author and for the rest of us who would love to learn to quilt creatively! Thank you, Jenny!
I am just starting to teach myself fmq on my new domestic. This looks fabulous.
Congratulations Jenny! I was lucky to have taken your class a while back. I came out of your class feeling like I could do this with practice. Than you.
Love my Superior threads. King Tut on top and Bittom Line in the bobbin.
Congratulations on your book!
Congrats on your book — it looks great, and I look forward to learning from it as I need all the help with free motion quilting I can get! I guess my favorite threads are Gutterman, because of the small spool size and number of colors, and Aurofil, as they are the ones I seem to use most.
Love looking at all the quilts. And would love to win a copy of your book, it looks really good!
I almost exclusively use Aurifil 50wt for piecing. For quilting I use Aurifil 50, 40 and 28 wt. I also use a variety of Superior threads for quilting…
Wouldn’t we all love to have your book Jenny! Unlike so many others who have issues with this thread, I have always loved Sulky’s rayons. I use a lot of satin stitching in my work and Sulky threads are great for that. Mixed with the workhorse of using Aurifil threads, which I use for everything else to create my quilts, I end up with loads of spools of fabulous color!
Your book is beautiful. I would LOVE to win a copy.
Great book, Jenny! I have to collect books that my friends authored so I can sit with the book and pretend my friend is there with me in real life!
Congrats on your new book and thanks for the chance to win a copy.
My favorite thread to use is Superior Threads King Tut.
Looking forward to this Blog Hop!
Wonderful idea!!! Looking forward to all the practical tips.
Love your blog and hope to love your book!! My favorite thread is Superior Threads Fantastico because it is, well, fantastic! No lint & beautiful stitches – what’s not to love!
Thanks for the chance to win your book! My favorite thread is usually Essential by connecting threads. It is a decent thread at an affordable price.
My favorite thread is king tut. It started years ago with Betty Cotton with cotton theory. Then Cindy Needham whole cloth workshop. Now I use bottom line, king tut for quilting.
Can’t wait for the contest to end, I’m ordering my book from Amazon today. My favorite thread is Aurifil; mileage, neutral range of colors, and it loves my machine. Love my superior threads, leaning heavily toward the Kimono Silk when I can afford it.
Beautiful work on the book, Jenny. It is obvious that you filled it with your great instruction and pictures.
My favorite thread is King Tut variegated (in the very subtle color changes). It is reliable and works well with prewound bobbins.
King Tut
So enjoy your work and would love to have a signed copy. Congratulations on entering the world of published authorship
I’m not much of a free-motion quilter — and I don’t care for quilting that’s too dense — but I love what you do with thread and whole cloth designs and patterns! My favourite thread is Superior brand — I use King Tut (usually variegated) in my landscapes and thread painting. For piecing I like Superior’s MasterPiece and also am learning to like So Fine (polyester). I sometimes use Bottom Line in the bobbin. The cottons are long-staple, and produce less lint than other threads. I also like the put-up, in spools or cones rather than on “tubes” as are some other brands. Have fun with the hop!
I use aurifil thread for almost all of my quilting and piecing. Works like a dream on my Bernina 770.
My favorite thread for general sewing is Superior’s So Fine. I like the way it disappears and sews cleanly without lint. For hand sewing I like Valdani.
Jenny, I am so glad you have written a book. I have taken a class from you and it is one of the best ever. I really want your book. I mostly use 50 wt. Aurifil in the top and bottom but on something small have used Superior’s silk and it is gorgeous. I want to branch out to using heavier threads.
Loved meeting you, taking your class and having dinner when you visited our Guild in Tellico Village in Tennessee earlier this year. Such a thrill! Our basset hound, Skarlett, says “Hey” to Zeke! Sorry you didn’t get to meet her when you were here. Congrats on your first book! Awesom!
Hi, I have taken a class from Jenny and learnt a lot. It was very informative and has made me a better person. I’m looking to take another class when she is in my area. Hope to win the book because it would be a great asset to my sewing room and will help me with more quilting techniques. Thanks Sylvia
Loved your class and your quilting. I like to use Magnifico on my machine on the top and so fine in the bobbin.
I’d love to win a copy, as I really need to learn how to FMQ
I have just returned to free motion quilting after about 5 years of just doing straight line mostly. This book might help me get my grove back, I am surprised at how well I used to free motion on older quilts, doesn’t take long to loose the skill. Aurifil is my favourite thread for it’s ease in my machine and the colour line. I also use Wonderful when I am doing some appliqué and embroidery again for colour and the Sue Spargo Elegance line.
Bev
Congratulations, Jenny. Your book sounds like something that would really help me and a lot of others, too. I love Aurifil 50 wt. for piecing and quilting. I’m just beginning on the longarm and for that I’ve been using Superior Threads So Fine. It works great in my machine and looks good on the quilts.
I’d love an autographed copy of your book! Your class was great and gave me cofidence to do some free-motion quilting. I’m excited to develop these skills.
Was able to take a class from you in the past and have used what I learned. My favorite thread is Floriani as that is what works best in my machine. Congratulations on your book.
I have read through some of your tutorials and am impressed, I certainly hope I will win a copy of your book.
Im enjoying your weekly blog, also getting a few tips from it. Hope this is the right place to comment to get an entry for a chance to win your new book. Looks like it is just what I need for my fmquilting.
I would love a signed copy of your book, thank you for the opportunity. My favorite thread is Aurafill and Superior Threads.
My favorite thread is So Fine in the bobbin and Kimono on top for quilting.
I love Aurifil thread!!
Looks like a great line-up for your blog hop … I look forward to clicking through …
Thanks for the chance at the giveaway, Jenny! I like using lots of different threads, depending on the density of the quilting. Superior’a bottom line in the bobbin seems to work with most top threads. I do like 100 wt. silk thread for dense quilting. Thanks for your weekly blog posts as well as your newsletter. I enjoy both.
I loved your class, Jenny, and got many positive comments about my mini quilt at our guild “Show and Tell.” I would love a copy of your book. My favorite threads are Isacord and Mettler.
Starting with a Square was my favorite class in 2018 in Ft. Myers, FL. I have become an Aurifill convert.
Jenny
Love your classes and the book. Our quilt guild’s holiday party is next week. We will be awarding 21 days, 21 minutes challenge achievers certificates there!
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm with us in SWFlorida.
Oh wonderful! That is exciting and warms my heart! Thank you for sharing that Robin.
Fun & inspiring read for quilters. If you know Jenny, you can hear her voice in the words on the page.
Love reading your emails and especially the pictures of Zeke. He’s a cutie. I use Aurophil because of it’s quality.
I would love to be more creative with free motion quilting but find it rather daunting
I love to piece with Aurifil as their 50 weight thread is only two ply and consequently, the seams lay flatter than other threads. I like to quilt with Superior trilobal polyester 40 weight thread as I love the texture and sheen. I would love a copy of your book. Thanks for a great blog.
I’d love to have a copy of your book….
Would love to add this to my collection!
Congratulations to an awesome teacher.
I love to win a copy of your book. Congratulations
This book is bound to be a classic!! Congratulations on all your creative and exuberant talents.
I can’t wait to hear you at Conejo Valley Quilters.
More fun is to be had
Sounds like fun!
My favorite thread is Superior. I mostly use Masterpiece for piecing but all of my bobbin thread for piecing and longarm quilting is Superior pre-wounds. 94% of my longarm quilting is Superior for top thread.
I like the quality, almost no lint, consistency in color and, if something is wrong with the thread, which very rarely happens, they will replace it. They also have great customer service.
I’ve taken your class once and enjoyed it, thank you!
Fun idea, Jenny! I’ll try and keep up with the blog hop!
I, too, have taken a class with you and enjoyed your lecture to my quilt guild. Such an inspiration!
Your blog has given me interest in your book as I like what I see in your work. I especially like free motion quilting on my regular sewing machine, but always looking for inspiration and would love to have your book.
My favorite thread is any and all threads from Superior Threads and Glide.
I usually buy my thread from Connecting Threads. So far it’s worked well for me & doesn’t break the bank. Thanks.
Congratulations on your new book! One of my favorite threads to use in quilting is a variety of machine embroidery thread to do thread painting and free motion quilting.
I missed your coming to our guild because of a family emergency and I would love to have a bit of your wisdom come to me thru your book.
Happy Holidays!
Congratulations Jenny! What a great feeling it must be to have such a splendid book published. So happy for you!
I’d love to win a copy of your book!
I now use Auifil, especially like variegated!
I loved your free motion class in Pacific Grove..I learned so much from you and am using so much of what you taught. I would love to win a copy of your book autographed! I mostly use King Tut by Superior threads and bottomline. I also have successfully experimented with their Rainbow line. Thankyou for opening new possibilities.
Jenny ! Thank for this post.
The best gift was knowing all those artist and look at their work and blog, sorry to say some of them I haven’t heard about them .?
Aurifil and Superior threads are all my machines ever sew with. I loved your class in Houston last year.
Aurifil and Superior threads are all my machines ever see. Enjoyed your class last year in Houston.
Your book looks fabulous and very informative. Just what I need to improve my quilting. I love aurifil and superior threads.
Congratulations on your book! My favorite thread for piecing is Aurifil 50 wt and for quilting I love Superior Threads.
I wpould love to read your book!
I took your trapunto class in Tucson- practicing to quilt the piece! Signature threads are the ones I use the most
Congratulations on your book! I had the pleasure of taking one of your classes around the time it was going to publication.
I heard you talk at Independence Hall Quilters. I am a big fan and would love a copy of this book.
My favorite thread is valdani variegated. I love the color choices. It is also a little thicker (maybe 30 weight) and really shows up nicely.
Okay. Aurifil thread is my favorite. I don’t think anyone could convince me to use any other thread. Believe me at my age I’ve tried most brands. :) I have attended two of your classes in my lifetime and you are a wonderful teacher. I love Zeke.
A great idea! I live in Europe a book is possibility but a course probably not
Thank you. I have good results using Superior threads.
Jenny, we in the Sierra foothills all know first hand what a fabulous teacher you are. It will be great to have all your teaching wisdom in one book. Looking forward to reading/practicing with it.
I think I love too many threads, but I use lots of Florianni to thread paint, Wonderfil for texture, and Sulky Blendables when I want to be bold.
It’s so hard to pick a favorite! My newest favorite, though, is Superior’s So Fine. It goes through my machine so smoothly with nary a glitch (hope I’m not jinxing anything!) and very little lint. I just hope my previous favorites don’t get jealous!
Congrats on the new book. I’m looking forward to reading it as I know it will be very interesting & informative.
I was so impressed with your quilts viewed at the Houston show. I attended your lecture on thread types and learned so much!! Look forward to the book. Thanks!!
I don’t know if its my favorite, but I use a lot of Connecting Threads thread!
Would love to win a copy of your book. You are so talented and so inspiring
I committed already but gave the wrong email?. I love Aurafil and Superior Threads!
I love your quilts so I’m sure I would love your book!
I’m so in!
Loved your class last winter on Florida would love a copy of your book!!
So excited that your new book is finally here! Would love to win a copy to see your tips and tricks.

Your book looks wonderful. I would love to win a copy!
Looks like an exciting new book!
Look forward to honing my machine quilting skills
Would love a copy of your book as quilting tips are always valuable. Superior thread is my favorite.
I love free-motion quilting and your work. I’m confident your new book is going to become a best seller. Congratulations.
Thanks for making your classes so informative and fun! Hope your book is a smashing success! Holiday blessings to you and your fans.
Love the look of the new book! I lost all my books in the flood two years ago in Louisiana. So I am still rebuilding my small library. Frustrating, but at least now I am getting books that I will actually use! LOL
Thanks for the giveaway!
glen
Thanks for the opportunity to do this blog hop. My favorite thread idea aurafil
It looks like a wonderful book!
I’ve been looking at this book as I’m always interested in ways to improve my FM. Thanks for the opportunity to win and congrats on the new book.
Oh Jenny – this is a fab idea and I must have your book :)
When are you going to be at the next quilt guild meeting @ Meisners?
I’ll be at the pot luck next Tuesday and I teach it meissner on the 12th!
The book looks fab! ? I mostly use Aurifil thread
I took Jenny’s class and enjoyed it a lot. I would love to receive her new book. I’m very interested in quilting and long arm quilting.
Congratulations on your new book, Jenny! I can’t pick just ONE favorite thread, for goodness sake!! :-) Aurifil 50/2 cotton for piecing. Glide polyester for longarm quilting (although still experimenting with different threads on that machine). YLI silk thread for needle turned applique. Nimo thread for beading. Mettler or Guttermann for general sewing. Isacord for machine embroidery. I own a LOT OF THREAD… Hah!
Lovely book! My favorite thread is Aurifil, hands down.
p.s. Thanks for your Houston pics….they are the best I’ve seen.
I would love to win a copy of your book. I have a longarm (but only quilt for myself) so am always looking for ideas, and ways to improve. I love aurifil thread to piece with, but mostly quilt with So Fine by Superior. Thanks for a chance to win!
I don’t have a favorite thread at the moment. For threadpainting, I like cotton, and will use anything I can find that is the right color. For piecing, I have started using an 80 weight poly, and like how itt cuts down on bulk. My last quilt had YLI, Mettler, Aurifil, Coats & Clark (I live in a small town), and likely several other brands in it.
The new book looks great! Honestly, I haven’t tried too many different threads. I mainly use Coats and it has never given me any issues so I’ve seen no reason to switch.
Such a great looking book…. Looking forward to perusing it….
I would love to win your book.
I have good success with So Fine although I love Debby Brown’s Fabulux.
I would love a book. I have been quilting a year and a half. I have learned a lot. But, still would love to learn more.
I enjoyed talking with you in Houston at the Power of Women Exhibit. Winning your book would give me more of your views. Fingers crossed. I love Superiors’d Omni thread.
Aurifil is my favorite thread for both piecing and quilting.
Looking forward to the blog hop.
It is always good went a person can receive a free book. I have enjoyed the quilting that I have done. I enjoyed the class that Jenny gave. I would be honored to receive Jenny’s new book. Thanks
I love Superior Magnifico makes for wonderful thread painting.
Congrats on your book Jenny – blog hop, great fun!
How do we find your schedule for classes? Do you come to the SE states? I would love to take one of your classes.
You’ll be teaching at my guild in a couple months so would love to win your book!
Congratulations on the book, I would love to win a copy. Thank you for the opportunity
Congratulations on your book and thank you for the generous chance to win. My go to thread for most of my art is YLI with a splash of Madeira if I want shine and sparkle.
Congratulations on your book! I have purchased a copy and it is great! I use Aurifil 50 wt. and So Fine the most.
New to FMQ but so far love Aurifil, works smoothly
New to fmq but like Aurifil so far, seems to be smooth going with it
I would love to win this book. It looks fabulous!
Congratulations on your new book! I’ve used Aurifil threads for all my piecing and quilting ever since reading about them during SewCalGal’s 2012 FMQ Challenge. They work equally well in the vintage Singer machines that I use for piecing and my Janome 7700 that is used for all my FMQ. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy of your book for our quilting ministry group.
I’ve taken your class and then bought your book, so I don’t need to win. BUT, I think this is such a great idea! Just wanted to send a little cheer!
It sounds like a great book. My go to thread is Aurifil.
Your book sounds wonderful and a great way to learn to do free motion quilting. My favorite thread is Aurifil.
Aurifil is my favorite thread–fine, yet strong.
I love Bottom Line in my bobbin and So Fine for the top. Need your book and all the help I can get to freemotion. Hope I win.
Congratulations and thank you for writing this book! I need so much help with my free-motion quilting. I look forward to reading it. Thank you for the giveaway.
I’ve taken your class once and have been so inspired since. Yours was the fourth free motion class I tried and your method really sunk in. I’m having so much fun practicing! My favorite thread is Isacord. My machine loves it and the colors are so beautiful. When I free motion though I use aurofil 50w in the bottom and have so much better results. Thanks for the tip!
I love King Tut by Superior because my stitches just seem to look better!
