Pioneer Quilters Guild Show – 2019

December 12, 2019

I missed last year’s show due to a teaching trip so it was good to be back. As is usually the case, I didn’t have a lot of time to see the show but I think I was able to see it all. I even bought a few goodies:

Isn’t that adorable? I love it when someone makes my bag for me!

I intended to use this as my machine mat but it doesn’t work with my knee lift – dang!

Audrey; Mary Hammarin, quilted by Nancy Wiseman Attwater

Love what this Jane Sassaman fabrics did when fussy cut for the Bobby Dazzler pattern.

Big Purple Flower; Linda Cherry

Gotta love a Big Dream panel – nice job!

Busy as a Bee; Marilyn Spiegel

Marilyn used Cheryl Lynch’s pattern and 3/8″ squares!

Frankie; Cheryl Smith

Cheryl named her fabric turkey after Frank Sinatra. That gave me a giggle.

Long Log Cabin; Patty Long, quilted by Barbara Baker

It only took Patty 3 years to make this “quick” Log Cabin!

Jessica; Louise Santana, quilted by Lin Squires

Louise liked the 2017 opportunity quilt so she decided to make it herself and gift it to her daughter. I like how the linear quilting really hightlighted her piecing.

Civil war Memories; Barbara Oliver, quilted by Chris Volker

Based on the Pioneer guild’s Block of the Month 2015. The quilting was fabulous, too bad my photo does not show it.

Red Bird Lane; Lynn Brady, quilted by Lin Squires

The kit for this quilt reminded Lynn of her childhood. I found this quilt so charming.

In Full Bloom; Betty Kisbey, quilted by Rebecca Sillbaugh

Betty bought the kit for this from a friend, saving her from a UFO. Friends helping friends… Fun quilting.

Fall Pumpkins; Maryann Mealhow, quilted by Shari Bahr

Based on a Block of the Month; Maryann’s first time working with wool. The echo quilting sets off the design well.

A “Round” Town; Wendy Ellinger

Pattern from PIQF + Cherrywood fabrics = this fun quilt!

Homegrown; Beth Gardner, quilted by Rebecca Sillbaugh

Sue Spargo Block of the Month, 2018. Joyful quilting.

Reindeer Roll Call; Beth Gardner

Pattern found at the Houston Quilt Show. Adorable!

Stars and 9’s; Carol Berntsen.

Simple, traditional, lovely.

The Forest Deep; Christine Westbrook.

Christine combined part of a panel, strip piecing and bejeweled Prairie Points. Quilted with her Sashiko machine. I really enjoyed the textures in this piece.

Blazing Lemoyne Star; Maryann Mealhow, quilted by Beth Foust.

First time Lemoyne Star for Maryann! I love the fluttering red bits around the perimeter.

Bargello Wave; Andi Burchhardt, quilted by Diana Meier.

Beautiful bargello using ombre fabrics.

Fiesta Mexico; Lana LaPlante

This was Lana’s most fun quilt ever. Love her colorful fabric choices – reminds me of Jane Sassaman prints.

Scrappy Log Cabin Star; Judy Hertel.

Lots of challenges here: paper piecing, scrappy plan, bias seams and ruler work. Great choice of yellow fabric to make those outer point pop!

Psychedelic; Denise Long.

Made from “Convex Illusions” pattern from Dwilt Art. This looks like a challenge!

Prairie Star; Debra Carlisle, quilted by Fran Claassens.

Wow, Debra’s first paper piecing pattern and she chose a Judy Niemeyer? Fabulous!

Moon Dance; Valerie Price, quilted by Barbara Baker.

Valerie “had” to go shopping to get the right fabrics for this pattern – I think she nailed it.

Wild Elephant; Linda Cherry.

Linda almost abandoned this quilt because it just did not look like an elephant until she was far along.

Strings of Beads; Diana Meier.

Fun, easy, simple, pretty….and done!

Butterfly Commotion; Valerie Price.

Clever composition using a panel and 6 One Block Wonder blocks. Cheerful!

The Symphony; Sybil Ellery, quilted by Lin Squires.

Sybil was inspired by the Red and White quilt exhibit in Houston in 2011. Beautiful design using EQ8. Just enough quilting to set it off.

Dit Dot Circle; Patty Clausen.

From a pattern by Antelope Canyon using Dit Dot Evolution fabric. Love these colors!

I hope you enjoyed the show. Do you have a favorite?

I’ll be posting to Nina-Marie’s Off the Wall Friday.
