A Finish!
This will be short. Here is this week’s finish:
I could have made a quilt in the time it took me to land this car. It’s a 2022 MDX, new. I have spent at least 60 hrs on this search. At this specific time in the market, MDX’s are super hard to find, at least the one I wanted. I filled all 90 cu ft of cargo space often in my old MDX. I looked at all kinds of other cars, models, and brands, both new and used, and this is what fit me best. It has all kinds of teacher-friendly options.
This was a painful, distasteful, annoying, and unnecessarily difficult process. I did all my shopping alone, but I don’t think my problems were because I was a little ole grey haired lady. I found this car in Oakland, 110 miles from my home. Oakland has high crime rates, but this car was priced the same as a similarly equipped model with 20,000 miles on it in nearby Roseville! So yeah, it was worth the drive.
True story: I get ready to leave with my new car, mentioned that I was hungry and was going to swing by In ‘n Out. Everyone at the dealership pounced on me – “Do NOT go in, do the drive through”. Apparently, you can be sitting right there inside of In ‘n Out, enjoying your burger, and someone will walk right up to your car and do a smash and grab. I knew that happened in stores, but cars parked at a fast food place? Yikes!
I am happy this is over. It’s the kind of happy you feel after a medical procedure is over. I kept on saying to Hubby that I wanted the epidural, “just wake me up when it’s over”. I do like my car and there is no doubt that this is the best for me. The dealer in Oakland was a gem and their process was flawless.
It may take me another 40 hrs to learn how to program and use all the features on the car, lol! Can I just go quilt now?

Congratulations. With the chip shortage, we are holding off buying anything electronics. Glad you mentioned In&Out Burger while you were still in the dealership.
Jenny says
Yes, who knew it could be dangerous to go into an In /n Out?
Michelle Jones says
Had my car for over a year and still finding out stuff about it….”I didn’t know it did that!” Or “what is that beep for”? It never ends…….
Jenny says
LOL! I watched a 20 min video yesterday that was helpful. I learned all kinds of cool stuff!
Suzanne H Guthrie says
we quilters do develop perseverance! Congratulations, good finishes do occur, though seem so far away.
Jenny says
Suzanne, I agree. Quilting does encourage perseverance and it becomes a part of us.

i feel your pain. i bought an all electronic 2021 hybrid last fall. LOVE THIS CAR and yet the other day i could not figure out how to change the audio from bluetooth to radio. i was driving into Berkeley and wanted the traffic report. i had learned but forgotten. now i need a refresher! btw, most of my best learning has been on YT! looks like our new cars are almost the same color…a deep dark blue/gray. ENJOY!
Jenny says
Oh I know! The sales guy took me through everything and I remembered about half of it.
Mrs. Plum says
Congratulations on getting your car, Jenny! So glad you got what you wanted.
Jenny says
Thank you! Me too!!!

Congratulations! I have owned 3 MDX ‘s (2003, 2008,2016) and love them. I wanted an electric Hybrid suv and ordered a Lexus (why doesn’t Acura make one ugh!). It’s taken 6montgs bits it’s coming in a few weeks👍 . Hopefully I’ll be happy with it.
Jenny says
I hope you love your Lexus! This is my third MDX also, the perfect teacher’s car.
Laceflower says
Congrats on you ‘finish’. I’m sure you are so relieved that the hunt is over and you can resume life as you know it.
Jenny says
Oh my gosh yes – I am so happy it’s over!!
Rebecca Grace says
Congrats on your new car, Jenny! I had a Acura years ago and I loved that car — I had to give it up because it was a 2-door coupe and I had too much trouble trying to climb into the ridiculously small backseat with an infant in my arms for that rear-facing baby seat. Aforementioned infant is now the 21-year-old playing piano in the next room, so this was quite awhile ago… ;-). VROOM, VROOM! ALL THE WAY TO THE QUILT SHOP!
Jenny says
THank you! It was so much fun…not! But it’s over!!
Peggy Martin says
Congratulations on the beautiful new car!! It looks like a perfect fit for you – plenty of room for quilts, too! Hope you and your family are all doing well.
Virtual hugs,
Peggy

We’ve had our Edge for 5 years and just learned how the sun roof works! These things take time. Enjoy your new car!!
Jenny Lyon says
Apparently I had the ability to start my car from far away on the one I traded in. I didn’t realize what that button was for until it turned up on my new one and the sales guy explained to me. Duh!
Denise Van Norman says
Yes that’s nice to have in the summer
Jenny Lyon says
It is! And best of all the search is done.
Sue Sheridan says
Our Lexus RX350 is 4yrs. old. The manual is in the glove compartment, and I still have to get it our to change something. Sometimes I just press buttons nad get lucky. Stay cool in this 100 degree heat.
Jenny Lyon says
LOL! I need the 8 hr intensive training course on how to use the features of my new car! I don’t know how to answer the phone yet.
