The 2023 Sierra Gold Quilters Guild show

October 19, 2023

I attended the –Sierra Gold Quilters Guild Show in early Oct and I am just now getting around to posting. I had a very hard time narrowing down my photos; there was so much food work!

Their wearables section was very strong – I counted 18 items! And there seems to be a lot of excellent applique going on around there too. I do think it was their best show and I do get there most years. I have short comments on each. You will enjoy the show:

Dresden Jacket; Anelie Belden

Fabulous use of brights and if it’s Dresden, it must be Anelie!

Jacket and trousers; Lannie Staniford

I love the texture of the hand quilting.

Elephant in the Room; Jan Morin, quilted by Barbie Robertson

Just beautiful and lots of detail added beyond just fabric to create depth.

Halloween Fun; Martha Barber

Just so happy!

Desert Rose; Valarie Bonkowski

Fantastic representation of the flower and just the right quilting to enhance it even more.

Chips and Strips on Stripes; Hilde Langlet

This might have been my “Judge’s Choice”. I just love this quilt. And ya gotta give her kudos for The Best Name!

Didn’t get the name of the maker, sorry!

The maker was in my Sheer Paneled Jean Jacket class and I have never seen anyone do this before. Lovely composition and the cat has such an attitude!

One of the charming things about the Sierra Gold show is that it is held on the fairgrounds; there are something like 20 windows with vignettes in each. No photo of them turned out well because of the glare. There were many very interesting displays. One had, I think, 5 generations of quilters, along with their story.

Colorful Covey; Sue Green

Absolutely charming and colorful.

Dear Jane; Elizabeth Schmidt

Inspiring Dear Jane. Anyone who completes a Dear Jane deserves a medal.

Scrappy; Pat Bjerke

This just sparkled from afar.

Schoolgirl Sampler; Ulla Doty, quilted by Pat Bjerke

Great color choices and precision piecing and applique.

Thank you, pat; Noreen Goff

Beautiful!

Charleen Sue; Sandra Wagner

Funky, colorful and charming little guy!

Flowers All Around; Sue Green

Exquisite applique.

Squares in the Sun; Hilde Langlet

Runner up for my “Judge’s Choice”. Gotta love those stripes.

Vintage Trailer; Terrie Van Scyoc

Great free motion quilting to create the designs.

2 Pink Hibiscus; Jean Heinl, quilted by Shannon Freeman

This was just so pretty. The quilting added so much texture.

All Roads Lead to Home; Barbara Garcia

You may not be able to see this in the photo, but there are hand embroidered blocks and really nice quilting.

Mint Chocolate; Ulla Doty, quilted by Pat Bjerke

Beautiful appplique and I love the color choices. The sawtooth border adds a lot of energy.

She Who Sews; Joan Rogers

She used the most fun fabric for this One Block Wonder!

Sunbonnet Sue’s Garden; Sandy Askin

Sweet little Sue has been sew busy!

My African Plains; Sandra Wagner

Oh I feel the heat from the African Plains!

Posies; Pat Bjerke

Sweet applique. I love the pop of yellow and the bubbled background.

Zinfandel and Zinnias; Penny Dominici

A celebration of purple!

Bunny Calendar; Ulla Doty

These are the sweetest wool applique bunnies!

1930’s Confetti Star; Terrie Van Scyoc

I love LeMoyne stars and this one is so colorful.

Spring Sprouts; Martha Barber

Beautiful applique and color choices.

Baptism Gown; Hilary Wagner

You can’t see the exquisite detail in my photo. This is incredible heirloom sewing work.

White Kimono Jacket; Sue Green

Gorgeous! The simple quilting lets the applique shine.

Coat of Many Pieces; Sandra Wagner

Very cool combination of fabrics; lots of texture within an edited color palette. That piecing ain’t easy.

Whimsical Jacket; Barbara Garcia

Oh I was so pleased to see Barbara’s jacket completed (from my class). Beautiful composition!

Birds and Berries; Sue Green

Fabulous color choices and the quilting choices were spot on.

Garden Party Down Under; Martha Barber

This is one of the coolest Block of the Month quilts ever and the bright fabric choices really bring this to life.

House Tile Scene; Joanne Joseph

Tiled machine embroidery; beautiful scene and colors.

Sunflower Gatherings; Ulla Doty, quilted by Pat Bjerke

I’d love to have this in my entry for fall! Great use of value and color.

Opportunity Quilt

I forget the full story, but this was an antique top that was quilted for the guild. Spectacular quilting on this colorful classic. I did not win it, sniff, sniff. Look at that lovely scalloped edge.

Rose Parade; Jan Morin, quilted by Pat Bjerke

Lovely color choices for a fun wall hanging; love that polka dot sashing.

New Dawn Star; Penny Dominici, quilted by Pat Bjerke

This is such a beautiful rendition of Dawn Star. How spectacular this would look hanging in a home.

I know you enjoyed that! I’ll be sharing at:
