A charity quilt and a mini tour of my Christmas home

December 21, 2023

I finished a charity quilt this week – yahoo! I try to do 2 a year, a low bar I know. I do contribute pieces regularly to other causes and try to do 2 for my local guild. I will probably finish the next one before year’s end, but this will be my last post for this year.

Last year I decided that charity quilts do not need complex piecing to be useful and pretty. I take 4 or 5 coordinating fabrics and sew random width selvage-to-selvage strips together to form the top:

It’s very happy/cheery! Yes, it could have used a little more value contrast. I was able to do this in 3 days, working part of each day so that’s pretty good.

A few shots of the quilting:

I should have thought this through, but the stippled section was done in a flash, the big bubbles and headband sections worked up quickly but a little more time comsuming. But the two gridded sections were a slog. I enjoyed it but realized it was kind of a silly choice. I could have made them twice as large and been done more quickly.

I have another version in blues that is in the works that I will construct in a similar fashion.

I thought I would share some random Christmas decorations around the house. You will note that I decorate using the “plopper method”, meaning I have decor that is already assembled and I just plop them around the house as needed. I don’t do a lot of fluff and puff!

Stockings lovingly made by my Mother-in-Law

This year I added fairy lights to most of my “ploppers” and I love the beautiful light they give. My house is very pretty this year with these sprinkled bits of light and color throughout. It is simple but lovely.

We can’t take them down until the 2nd because, well, there’s that football thing. Hubby’s team is in the running so no undecorating until all that is over. The house always seems so bare once the decorations are down.

Ooops, I almost forgot, Bayley wanted to weigh in on all of this:

She only wants to know when her next walk and next food will come.

I will return on Jan 4th with my blog and Jan 6th with my newsletter. If you don’t get my newsletter, you can sign up here. You’ll get my blog post plus other interesting articles, a Quilt of the Week and…..a Snort Laugh!

If you celebrate Christmas I hope it is a wonderful, peaceful and hope-filled time for you and yours. I hope everyone enjoys a lovely Holiday time with those you love. I don’t do a year end summary or a word of the year.  Sooooooooo, to 2023, peace out.

Hi Pat; Hubby sets up the creche and that’s the way his family did it. Good eye! Merry Christmas!

Blessings for Christmas and a Happy New Year, my friend! Your ‘ploppers’ are very pretty. I’m not risking much of anything this year — two 6-month old kittens batting Baby Jesus or a lamb or donkey around the living room or, worse, toppling a table-top tree — well, I just couldn’t face it! Here’s to 2024!

Oh those little bundles of joy! I guess they can wreak havoc on Christmas decorations. Blessings to you Margaret, be well. Hugs!
