I ran out of steam

December 19, 2024

I am going to take next week off; I don’t think many of you are going to be reading blog posts anyway! I will be back the following week, on Jan 2. I just ran out of steam. I have been at my computer since Thanksgiving for a variety of reasons and I need some down time. I usually have Dec and early Jan off, but not this year!

Although I have been super busy, it’s not particularly photo worthy things: applying for Houston 2025, getting guild gigs settled, travel plans for guilds set up, working on the Northern California Quilt Council’s January meeting and then there’s my personal life.

I am still enjoying the heck out of appliqueing these petals on my “bird quilt”. This will not be a show stopper quilt; it is a lot of fun and will be a delightful quilt when finished. I’m adding the dots now and I should have plenty to keep me busy over Christmas.

I appliqued quite a few petals in place before I discovered that I did not mark them all the same. As a result, some of the circles I made were too big. I got out my digital cutter and made some more. I don’t think the size discrepancy will be visible to the eye. I’m pretty pleased that I feel comfortable with basic stuff like this on my digital cutter.

My yard is doing some pretty things right now:

My Japanese Forest Grass is beautiful, even as it dies back.
That green! No photoshop! The granite boulders bloom with moss and lichen.
This cute little guy was just hanging out on my Barberry Bushes. Love the color contrast!
This is the real color, that ridiculously loud orange/red is showing up on my naked Crepe Myrtles.

I wish I had the time and energy to create a “here is my year in photos” post, but I have neither. I’m thinking about hibernating for just a wee bit. Have you seen this video of a Black Bear getting ready to hibernate in Yellowstone? It’s adorable. He/she can hardly hold up their head. I need a bit of that.

Bayley is thinking about the same:

I wish you and yours a beautiful, lovely and meaningful Holiday. We celebrate Christmas and we keep it very low key, celebrating the joy and not too much the presents. See you next year! Maybe all the applique will be done on my bird quilt!
