Mom’s Lily Bed is based on a strong childhood memory of being crouched in a flower bed with Lily-of-the-Valley and ferns. The heady smell of the lilys and the earthy smell of the ferns were delightful to me. There were all kinds of little bugs and worms and I loved to crouch in there and allow myself to be surrounded with all that beauty.
I used Radiance by Robert Kaufman for the center piece-the combination of the silk and cotton provides a beautiful luster. The raw silk hand dyed by Linda M Designs surrounds a teal silk dupioni insert. I used many different threads to achieve the look I wanted: silk, polyester, variagated, metallic wrapped silk and metallic threads. A wool batting provides dimension and puff. A modest amount of seed beads provides a bit more sparkle.
