Assembled Slice Quilt

Wahoo-Margo Wilson sent a photo to me of our Slice Quilt assembled-thank you! I don’t have detail shots-several of us are still doing finishing work and Donna is constructing some of hers. The artists are (l to rt) Anita Marshall, myself, Margo Wilson and Donna Brennan. We are all members of the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild and we formed an art-oriented small group, Quartz, which offered the Slice Quilt Challenge.I can’t recall exactly all the techniques used, but Anita’s quilt is primarily machine needle felted and includes a pair of her socks (the blue fields)! Margo and Donna’s quilts include  Tsukineko ink, fabric paint, Paint Sticks, colored pencils, thread painting, fused applique, couching, netting and quilting. All the quilts have chenille fields except mine-why on earth did I choose to laboriously thread paint mine??? There are probably other techniques used that I forgot to mention.

This piece and about 250 others will hang in the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild show  Feb 10-12, 2012. If you’re in the area you must drop by-it’s always a great show. The show will be a nice mix of modern and traditional  quilts, garments, art quilts and everything inbetween plus some great food and desserts. I’ll be the MC for the Fashion Show every day at 2:30PM so plan to be there for that!

But all the work on the tree was well worth it…so much depth! Love your challenge and wish I lived near enough to see that show!

What a wonderful project. It’s really interesting to see how each person interprets and represents the various elements. I’m assuming you did not consult with each other at all during the execution of the individual slices. Glad we got a pre-show glance and I look forward to a virtual tour with your accompanying thoughtful comments.

We did not consult with each other before the unveiling so it really was a surprise. Now that I have done one of these, I think I’ll do another if given the opportunity. The fun part is the unveiling-but maybe seeing them all completely done and hanging together will be even more fun!
