February 20, 2014

On to the “Big Quilt Room” of the show:

9 Lives Plus 3; Geri Richardson; Shireen Hattan
9 Lives Plus 3; Geri Richardson; Shireen Hattan

What a charming quilt! Geri Richardson designed and appliqued “9 Lives Plus 3”, featuring 12 months of cats. Quilted by Shireen Hattan.

Hearty Heart of Hearts; Sandy Fong

Sandi Fong made and quilted “Hearty Heart of Hearts” to do double duty as a Valentine’s quilt and for her anniversary. The feather quilting was beautiful.

Zenspiration; Suzie Quinnell
Zenspiration; Suzie Quinnell

This was one of my favorites. Suzie Quinnell made and quilted “Zenspiration”. She combined traditional log cabin blocks, zentangled blocks, silk and some fabulous quilting to make this gorgeous quilt.

Quilty Qwerty; Donna Brennan

I love this quilt! Donna Brennan made and pieced “Quilty Qwerty” and I love how effectively she used value and color. Donna used guild member Judy Sisneros’ Circle Pizzazz pattern and a collection of typewriter/bird/stamp and print fabrics.

Spring Bouquet; Patty Blesso; Debra Lopez

There were two of these Block of the Month appliqued quilts in the show and I had the best photo of Patty Blesso’s “Spring Bouquet”. Gorgeous quilting by Debra Lopez and what fun colors!

Modern Periwinkle Paisley; Deb Winterling

This simple periwinkle quilt, “Modern Periwinkle Paisley”, made and quilted by Deb Winterling just tugged on my heart-so sweet, so simple, just beautiful.

Hoop Sisters Feathered Star; Shireen Hattan

Shireen Hattan embroidered and quilted Hoop Sisters Feathered Star”, a Block of the Month quilt. Shireen used silk, satin and lame to give a very luxe look to this gorgeous quilt.

In a Galaxy, Far Far Away; Pam Burke; Shireen Hatten

Pam Burke designed “In a Galaxy Far Far Away” to include a number of Mariner’s Compass blocks she had pieced. Quilted by Shireen Hattan. I admire anyone who can make a good Mariner’s Compass!

Jumbrella; Janeen Lafreniere

Janeen Lafreniere made and quilted “Jumbrella”-a charming quilt that was one of the audience favorites.

Quilt for a Fireman; Helen Hardwick; Sandy Fong

Helen Hardwick made and pieced “Quilt for a Fireman” for her husband’s friend. He preferred another design and declined on this quilt! The yellow/reds are hand dyes and the gray/black a commercial ombre.

Golden Goose; Claudia Norman

Claudia Norman embroidered and quilted “Golden Goose”, a Hoop Sisters Design. I love the colors and flow of this quilt. He was not listed on the program but I think Skip helped a little!

Best of Show/Viewer's Choice!
Best of Show/Viewer’s Choice!

I received Best of Show for my “Morning Breeze”-my very first BOS! I also received Viewer’s Choice. It delights me that others enjoy my work. I love the plantings in my yard so if others enjoy this quilt, I feel like I’m walking my yard with them, pointing out the beauty of the plants and how gorgeous they are in the wind.

Thank you for the lovely photos. So nice to see quilts even when I’m in my slippers in rainy Oregon!! Your quilt is really inspiring. Such beautiful work. I’m also interested in what you are wearing. Looks like a collar over a jacket or????? Can you tell me more about it?

    • Jenny says

      February 20, 2014 at 7:47 pm

Glad you enjoyed them Mary Helen. Can you send some rain down here??? The jacket is one that would work well in Oregon-I call it a San Francisco raincoat. It is just a shell, the hood folds down as a collar or up as a hood, it compacts into nothing and is very light weight. They’re made by Mycra Pac. It’s an “investment piece”. I’ve wanted one since I’ve been here in Ca-13 yrs! Hubby bought it for me for my birthday.

Fabulous quilt! I’m so glad the show judges got “best of show” right. And then to have the show’s visitors confirm their judgment….is your head still up in the clouds?

Thanks Joanna! Yes, it was a new experience getting BOS-it was fun and in some ways stressful.

Wow, look at you in front of that beribboned quilt, all serene and calm as a cucumber. Congratulations! It’s a gorgeous piece and I know you put a lot of yourself into it. Good for you! :-)

Thank you for sharing the pictures of the quilt show. I enjoyed all the quilts but they look so different when shown in a photo. They look so different when seen from a distance. I also especially enjoyed your Morning Breeze quilt. Congratulations.

Thank you Kay-glad you enjoyed it. Photos do make them look different. Most look way better in person-someday I will improve my photography skills!
