Yes, I’m Late!

July 1, 2017

I have so little to show! I’m working on my book, so spending lots of time on that, none of it photo-worthy. And the projects for the book, well they can’t be published. I’ve got a short post here as  a result. I have some great teaser photos…and a new computer, hence the delay. A lot of time has been consumed integrating all my old stuff onto the new CPU.

At least I’ve got a few teaser photos to share:

A little bit of ruler work…

A little bit of whimsy…

It’s always fun to work with new materials…

I kinda like to free motion quilt…

More about this later…

And this is how I am spending my summer:

Note the full bowl of watermelon, baby monitor with Baby Boy Basset taking his afternoon nap in his crate (hard for you to see in the photo), all at my computer, sigh. It WILL be worth it, really looking forward to getting my book out there!

Please check back next week-it should be a little more exciting!

Are you willing to share the details of new computer? Why did you decide to upgrade and what configuration did you choose?
    Thanks

Hi Betsy! I chose to upgrade because my previous CPU was 8 years old and was getting a little funky. Because I have my own business, I just couldn’t afford the possibility of a computer melt down. So I purchased a Asus K31CD-DS71. My computer tech guys said to look for a i7-7700 Intel processor-the very latest one.

I learned a lot in my search. Most of the stuff on the shelves in Best Buy and Costco were ooooold-i 5’s even at Costco. That means those computers are several years old! I wouldn’t have known any of this had my tech guy not told me. He said CPU’s do not change much from brand to brand so his recommendation was not brand oriented, it was processor oriented. Hope this helps.

We have the enviable ability to multi-task, especially when it involves watermelon in the summer. I also love to free-motion quilt when I can manage the surface. Question–do you use a movable machine or a stationary one? If I had a gripper-hang-from-the-ceiling device like Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry, I’d be such a happy camper.

Hi Martha! My main machine now is a BERNINA 765, until recently it was a BERNINA 730 Artista. My new one has the longer throat, both stationary. I do use Patsy Thompson’s Quilt Suspension system for larger quilts and it is much like Caryl’s system-runs at around $100 and it makes quilting larger quilts soooo much easier! I wrote about it in a previous blog post: https://quiltskipper.com/2017/04/patsy-thompsons-quilt-suspension-system-and-a-beautiful-spring/ See what you think!

Good thing that we all know that ‘Baby Boy’ is not a child when you say ‘napping in his crate’. Otherwise we’d be sending CPS over to check on his ‘crib’. Love the hints of what is coming in your book. I know I’ll buy it.

Aw, thank you Helen. Good point about Baby Boy-I revised the post to show he’s a Basset. Thank you for the comment.

How exciting about tour book but don’t envy the mew computer struggle.
Can’t wait til we can see the finished product.
I assume your baby boy is a dog since tou have jim in a crate? Tried to see in the photo bit even magnified couldn’t tell.
    Good luck with your book

Yes, it is a Basset! I revised the post to show that because other people asked about that too! Thank you for reading and your comment Marlette.

Such excitement! A new book, a new computer, a baby basset, and watermelon! Could life get any better :)
