The Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild Show 2024 – Part 1; Small Quilt Room and Wearables
We outdid ourselves; this was our best year yet! There was a lot of new-to-me talent, LOTS of fabulous quilting (hand, digitized, long arm, mid arm and domestic), the most wearables I’ve seen in over a decade and a show stopper Best of Show.
I am splitting the show into two posts. As usual I had some clunker photos of really good work; hence no photo. I didn’t know where to cut it off, there was so much lovely work; I have 97 photos in all to post.
I truly may have missed some. It is a big task to size, color correct and add the names to each photo and honestly, I just got tired. Make sure to read the note at the end. So here is what I’ve got. Please write me if I misspelled or got anything wrong. I will correct it.
You will enjoy this (in no particular order)!

Points of Light; Jenny K. Lyon. You’ve seen this as I made it. I’m including this photo to show that despite the many hours of trying to make this lay flat, it did not. I do love the piece and I’ll work more to get it flat.

River of Flowers; Cindy Gangler. Amazing details throughout the piece, some 3D. Inspired by her trip to Japan.

Remember When?; Penny S. Hanscom. This caught my emotions. Look at the details. Sorry for the fuzzy photo.

Wine Not?; Elizabeth Holz. Winner of Best Interpretation of the theme – Wine and Roses; 61 different fabrics

The Ocean Angel; Lillian Paniagua Enriques; Sponsored by Noemi Simonelli. Junior entry; Based on memories of playing with her big brother in the kiddy pool

The Ocean Rejoices; Annie Fuller. Original design of applique and free motion. Many delightful details within

Tribal Honu; Karla Delner. The Honu turtle represents strength and endurance. Lovely details in this quilt.

My mother-in-law in her 30’s; Noemi Simonelli. Without knowing how she looked, Noemi made this doll which truly is how her MIL looked

Warmth; Donna Ireland. Reminds her of the warm welcome received from the people of Prince Edward Island

Molly with a Pearl Earring; Donna Brennan. Molly’s face reminded Donna of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring; a crowd fav

View From the Alhambra; Martha McDonnell. From a photo took while visiting Spain; started in a class with Penny Hanscom

Dragonflies’ Flight; Juli Neal. Started with a center pieced by Helen Hardwick, hand quilted with Helen’s thread

The Candy Store at Chenery Hills; Joan Carey. Inspired by sweet memories of her grandparents home on Chenery Hill

Tinsel; Kathy Berreth; Quilted by Gail Williams. Sue Spargo, Block of the Month; many lovely details
One thing that concerns me is that the show is so good that it might discourage newer quilters. I hope not! I want them to share their beauty and joy also. I remember the first show I saw of this guild, I had no idea how fabulous quilts could be. As I looked at the show, I got overwhelmed. And then I noticed a few everyday quilts and I was so relieved! I found great beauty in them also. And you learn a lot just by seeing your work hang with others. You will see that some things you do well and others might need some improvement.
Well off I go! I’ll be linking up:

Yes it is always good to have quilts that everyone can aspire to make. We need others to join in on the fun. It takes time and practice to acquire the skills to make the spectacular quilts. Thank you so much for sharing your photos.
You’re welcome Kathy! Glad you enjoyed them. Hopefully shows inspire.
What is the second ribbon on your quilt–the lime green one?
SEcond place for the category (large wall quilt master).
Such much wonderful inspiration! It looks like a great and varied show!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! It was spectacular.
As always, Thank You for taking so many photos and sharing them. I think your quilt deserved first place. It doesn’t really matter that it’s not straight at the bottom.
I love to read your posts.
Oh I was happy with my ribbon! I am glad you enjoy the posts about our show. Thank you for following and commenting!
Jenny, this post brought me back to my roots. I recall going to my very first Rhododendron Needlers Quilt Guild Show. Wow! Between some of the art quilts, Baltimore Albums and meticulous work I knew I had to hang out with this people. I did until we had to move. Thank you for taking the time to highlight all your local talent.
What a delightful comment! I wonder if most of us have “that moment” that we remember fondly. We know it when we find our peeps! Thank you for reading!
