AQS Paducah, 2025, Part 2 – the people, teaching, the show quilts

This is another photo-rich post of the Paducah show, teaching and the people. Let’s start with the people:

Before I even got to the show, I learned a thing or two about rental cars – they may not have a car for you, even if you have a reservation! I waited over an hour (some waited longer) in an area without seating or places to charge your phone at the Nashville airport. Travel just gets more and more exciting as time goes on.

When you arrive at the show, you are greeted by a team of helpful greeters who can tell you all you need to know.

Food is available on the parking lot, where a wide variety of local vendors are set up. But, there is never enough seating, so quilters spread themselves out wherever there is a horizontal space. It makes for a friendly lunch.

My local friend Brenda was at the show; she wrote the hotel ahead of time and mentioned that Paducah was on her Bucket List. Look how they greeted her! That sign was prominent as she walked in. How cool is that?

Super cool jacket made by one of my students.

Three friends who have been friends/sisters forever and have been coming to the Paducah show for forever, shared a machine together. Usually students team up in twos, but this trio was unbreakable. So fun!

On a whim, I asked my BERNINA Q20/Q16 crowd, how many already had a Q series at home…9! (One was out of the photo). Nine out of 20!!

I’m from Ottawa, Ill and Penny (to the left) asked me out of the blue in the ruler work class, “So you’re from Ottawa?”. Turns out she had seen that from social media and there were 3 of us from small towns in the Illinois Valley. What are the odds in a room of 20?

And I got to chat with Nina Clotfelter after the show was over and we all could relax. Who doesn’t smile around Nina?

Now, on to teaching. Ugh, I only took photos in 2 classes. I just get so tied up in teaching that I forget.

There was a student with a very wide smile behind that class project for the ruler work  class. When I put that ruler in a student’s hand, they LOVE it!

The very last day was my Blooming Sheers class and everyone always has FUN in that class. Really! Here are a few random choices of students and their work in the sheers class:

Soooo fun! One thing about the Paducah student – they were all on time except those delayed by the shuttle! Much appreciated.

Aaaand now, the quilts! Please note that there are probably huge gaps in what I post. I had a busy schedule and might drop onto the floor for 10 minutes between classes, or give up on a section that had too many people. There is no way I covered the whole floor.

As always, if I have posted a quilt before (that I remember), I don’t post it again, even though it might be an amazing quilt. And also, there are always clunker photos of fabulous quilts, too messed up to post.

Some are so heavily machine quilted that they lose their inner beauty of the colors and piecing. i.e. no longer as beautiful as they could have been.

Each quilter makes their choices as to density of quilting. I understand that some might look over quilted. You’d probably blanch at what I do to a quilt! That’s one of the things I like doing at a quilt show – I go around and think about what I like and don’t like. It clarifies my taste.

So many stunning quilts from known and unknown artisans.

When you don’t have time to take pictures in a class, I call that a good class. You were clearly engaged with the students and their smiles and work show how much they enjoyed and learned.

      Awww, sweet Gwyned! Thank you.

Wow, to me every quilt was a winner. So many appliquéd ones! So many with intraquite borders. Spiced gold reminded me of one of your whole cloth quilts. Ann in the yellow hat reminded me of your sheers. I want her shoes too! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Many of these were part of my favorites. All of them were stunning when viewing in person. I learned a lot in the
    BERNINA Q20/Q16 Ruler Work class.
