Tucson Christmas, 2025
NOTE: I’ve got two posts today, link to wedding post here.
Some of my posts are almost a personal travelogue. This is one of those. Our youngest son and new DIL live in Tucson and where better to spend Christmas than in Tucson? This trip was unlike any previous trip as I was on my scooter. We stayed at La Paloma which is very hilly. I’m not crying in my beer here, but the scooter kept me from some of my favorite things to do in Tucson: Sabino Canyon and walking the enormous and beautiful resort. Our next visit will make up for it!
La Paloma is a beautiful resort and brings us happy memories of our visits there. See that huge pool area? There are 4 different pools and I didn’t even get down there. But look at that view!
The hotel was lavishly decorated and displayed some beautiful art:
The “Snoop Dog Arizona Bowl” was played over Christamas and the Miami of Ohio team stayed at the resort, hence the pom poms.
Gingerbread house, Tucson style! Yes, that is all gingerbread, from the “tile” surround at the bottom, to the “sand” (gingerbread crumbs) to the “cactus”!
Sunsets can be spectacular. This year it was overcast and/or rainy, so not the most spectacular sunsets this time.
We spent a day in Bisbee, kicking around the shops and having some Birria. Bisbee is a historic mining town about 90 miles from Tucson, known for its copper mining past, Victorian architecture, and vibrant arts scene. It is also a very hilly town with oooold and bumpy sidewalks that were torture on a scooter.
We took the Queen Mine Tour into a closed copper mine that was fascinating.
Some random family photos:
A deliberately cheesy photo; remember family photos at JC Penney?
Newlyweds!
Tucson is quirky in a low-key way:

Clue – we were NOT in California:
Despite the scooter, I loved being in Tucson. It’s friendly, affordable and lovely…..not so much in the summer.
