Daisy Scarf Update/Conclusions
I tried a different method on my second rayon scarf, hoping to avoid the wrinkles, fading and fraying of my first scarf.
I saturated the fabric in undiluted starch and ironed it flat before stitching. This worked beautifully, creating a board of fabric that held the stitches well and kept the fabric from drawing up. The marks you see are the very basic markings I used for placement of the daisies using a heat erasable Frixion pen.
By putting the unwashed scarf next to the first one, you can clearly see the dramatic color fade and wrinkling of the first scarf-huge difference!
Dang, when I washed the second scarf (left in the photo), it also faded in color and wrinkled a bit. I pressed the first scarf again with more care-now it’s much less wrinkled.
I do like the scarf but I see that either method yielded a faded, slightly wrinkled scarf-it’s a bit more “Bohemian” than I expected. I think I would have been a lot happier with the final result if the fabric had retained its vibrant color. I do love the drape, softness and feel of the rayon and I like the daisy motif. Yes, I could try to dye it-like I know anything about dying…
I will try this again! I feel almost compulsive about getting to the drapey, vibrant, fun scarf that I have in my head.
Random Photo: I live across the street from a park and we’ve had some glorious spring weather-had to include this shot of the view!
Another great lesson! It is a shame the color faded. I don’t remember having so much color loss with rayons I’ve used for garments. Next time I do a project with rayon I will toss a Color Catcher in the pre-washing/pre-shrinking load to see what happens. Have you ever worked with sueded rayon?
I have some sueded rayon-it’s luscious-haven’t worked with it yet. Even if I had used Color Catcher it still would have faded:-(( I just don’t have this happen!
Goodness…that faded alot! Was it washed in hot or cold? Love the random photo! What a peaceful and beautiful place!
I washed it in cold-who knew it would fade like that in cold?? I do enjoy the park across the steet-a street is between us and the park with some traffic but I pretend the traffic is not there and grab some peace!
