SAQA had an exhibit, 50 Years of Innovation. I loved that exhibit! It was filled with iconic art quilts, several of which were instrumental in bringing me into the art quilt movement. The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento had part of Quilt National 2003 and it blew me away! I had never seen such quilts before. Several of the quilts in this exhibit I saw in person at that time. It really was a Moment for me.

Not Even Solomon, Ruth De Vos

Divine Radiation, Jane Sassaman

Study #11, Nancy Crow

Star, Leslie Gabrielse

Whew – what a great show! I hope you enjoyed it. I’ll be posting to Nina Marie’s Off the Wall Friday which always has a great variety of good links.

Thanks for posting all the Houston show pictures, Jenny. And especially thanks for crediting the makers. I have seen lots of pics on FB of stunning quilts from the festival but with no information about the maker. This is a form of plagiarizing and copyright infringement, in my opinion. So thanks for taking the time to honor the IDs of these quilters.

You are welcome Martha! Yes, it takes time to put the photo and the quilt together. I wish I had the time to comment on each because many of the quilts had compelling stories or items of interest.

Oh thank you! The quilts are all magnificent…including mine…hahaha. Cheers.

You’re welcome Martha! I do enjoy sharing the bounty. Not everyone gets to go.

One of my favorite exhibits was the SAQA retrospective!! I had seen so many of those quilts in magazines in the past (and some in person, too!) All of them were in pristine condition and it was so exciting to see all of them together in that wonderful exhibit.

I agree – I LOVED that exhibit and I too saw many of them in their initial run. I saw in one room the influence those that went before me.

Add my gratitude to the rest, thanks for taking the time.

So wonderful to be able to virtually experience the wonderful quilts for those of us unable to attend the show in person. Your blog is so interesting always! Thank you for reaching out and sharing your quilting adventures with us!
