Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild Show 2025 – Judging, Set up/Preview Party, Small Quilt Room, and Fashion Show

NOTE: I have another short post this week on my trip to El Paso.

I am so proud of my guild, the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild! Our show was absolutely spectacular this year and showed off all of the talent we have.

There is a lot that goes on before the show: intake, set up, and Preview Party. I will include photos of the Fashion Show and Small Quilt Room in this post also.

Don’t laugh; quilters need nutrition on intake/judging day!

We have intake down to a science, with a well-honed protocol for submittals:

Once all items have been brought in, judging begins:

We have the very best of judges, all 4 of them. Each person in the judging room had a specific job. It’s library-quiet in there except for the judges.

I was not able to help with set up, so no photos of that amazing process. Once it was all set up and the quilts hung, it was time for our Preview Party:

Cynthia Elliott is in the background and did the party which included (homemade) truffles, carrot cake cupcakes w/cream cheese frosting, candied orange peel and champagne; all sooooo good! We got a sneak peek at the vendors and quilts also.

The Fashion Show runs all 3 days of our show. We haven’t had a Fashion Show since 2019. We have lots of high end talent in garment making, costume, and knitting, so it was a spectacular show! I organized and announced the show, but the items were “pot luck” so to speak.

The show ran the gamut from vintage, to Modern, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and felting. There were many interesting stories to go with the garments. Here are all the garments, organized and ready to go:

Many thanks to Colleen Tiner for most of these photos:

Mairy Droese in a competition garment by Tonja McCarthy.

Hilary Pollock in a jacket on a sweatshirt base by Donna Brennan.

Hilary wearing a Renaissance dress she created for her daughter’s class presentation.

Sandy Keith in a Dee Cavanaugh silk vest.

Brenda Perry and Kenley Tiner showing items owned by Maureen McKane. The apron is her Great Grandmother’s crocheted apron, circa 1850. The tiny coat belonged to her Mother, made by her Grandmother, circa 1933.

Mairy Droese in another Tonja McCarthy vest, and Sandy Keith in a Dee Cavanaugh vest using Gloria Loughman’s tiling technique.

Sweet Gemma showing a 1901 wedding dress that belongs to member Della Goss; made when North Dakota was still a territory.

Oh, it was a fabulous show!

On to the Small Quilt Room. I want to make a comment on each piece but I just don’t have time right now. There was so much beauty and talent :

Hi Jenny, I can’t tell you how much I miss the joy of quilting. These quilts and garments were stunning. The sad part to me was that I barely knew any of the names . I did recognize my white table clotths on the preview party table.. Can’t believe they are still being used. I miss the camaraderie we had doing shows when I was there. I continue to read your news letter . I made. Two wedding ring quilts last year for my granddaughters weddings. You may remember those girls when they modeled as youngsters for the guild. I still have one of the sets of outfits I made them. I still love quilts but am not doing much as the motivation is not there. I still play golf and will play in the cornhole league. Tell those that remember me hello. Thanks for sharing this beautiful show. Love you all. Bev Hendrickson’s had my 90th birthday last year and still going strong

So good to hear from you Bev! I forwarded on your note to the guild. I hope you hear from some members. So good to hear how active you are at 90! Hugs across the miles.

I used to live in Grass Valley, member of Pine Tree guild. Folsom’s show always kicked off the show season. So many talented quilters and great vendors. Just wish you had a bigger venue!

Oh yeah, a bigger venue would be grand! Quilt Show Season has begun!
