I spent an enormous amount of time on my blue silk flower project this week. All I have left to do is background fills, bind and sleeve! I was so excited! I am loving this project and the direction it has gone. I felt the taste of victory coming…. I had a plan, thought it was a good one. I’ve got a lot of curve going on there; a grid “always” works well next to curves. But I didn’t want the usual suspects for my grid, I wanted something a little different. My plan was to pumpkin seed a triangle…
I needed a fun, whimsical, short project, a frolic. Somehow I ended up with this very “Fourth of July” looking quilt! Maybe it could even go Christmas? The nine-patch middle is a vintage block that I bought last year at Houston. Actually I bought maybe 15 blocks, with no plan. I think I will have to visit that booth again this year… I just love the vintage middle! You can see the stains on the left and right white-ish blocks. I’m good with that. I was afraid to go after them too hard lest they disintegrate. The corner blocks…
I visited my brand new Granddaughter plus her brother, Mom and Dad last week. We waited to visit until they were visitor-ready, hence I missed posting last week. Oh it was glorious! Newborns are so helpless and life is so hard for them. Morgan has a blister on her lip from nursing so much; the girl is huuuuungry! We got to spend time with our 3 1/2 yr old grandson Logan and just got a feel for his day-to-day life. It is a good one! We visited the Hiller Air Museum, a few parks and watched swim practice. Pink…
I’m currently on a spur-of-the-moment trip to see my new granddaughter, grandson, son and DIL! Being a Gramma is just The Best! I’ll be back next week; not sure of I’ll have time for a newsletter this weekend or not, sorry!
I have a well developed ability to take something simple and make it complex. I got this cute denim dress from Nordie’s Rack online for a very good price. I am redoing my summer wardrobe a bit. My uniform for the last several summers has been easy, sleeveless dresses. Even though I do all kinds of athletic things, my arms are not what they used to be. I decided I needed to cover them up on occasion. So an easy fit, short-sleeved denim dress was at the epicenter of what I could wear on repeat, even when it’s 110. Um,…
I drove over “the hill” (the Sierras) to the Carson City Quilt Guild Show and it was worth it! I knew that the guild had lost a significant source of funding since the last show, so I was surprised at the high caliber of the show. This show really is more like a regional show with quality on the level of almost a Mancuso show. The theme was “It’s a Wild, Wild World of Color” and they really lived up to that theme! I have a few friends up that way plus, I had taught there a few years…
This week’s post is a mix of activities from a guild visit, to a quilt finish and a game changing new product discovery! Let’s start with a visit to La Habra, CA in far northwestern Orange County to spend time with the Friendship Square Quilt Guild. It’s a beautiful city filled with gorgeous flowers and trees. I spent a bit of time before my lecture at Judy’s home and look at those nasturtiums: What a riot of color and beauty! We met for dinner at this iconic restaurant. I didn’t know of it, but hey, it’s been around since…
Last weekend I visited the Roseville Quilters Guild show, one I never miss if I’m in town. It was delightful! I think my interests change over time and that is reflected in what I took photos of. There were some spectacular applique quilts and a really good number of maker quilted quilts. It seemed like a really fresh show, lots of color, newer designs and creative art quilts. So here we go: Feels like spring. Celebrating her anniversary. Couldn’t be any cuter? I love a Jacob’s Ladder quilt; great use of color. Unique color combo makes this a special…
I love my job! I get to travel, meet new people, experience life in places I might not visit on my own, and talk about one of the loves of my life, quilting. Pinch me. This trip did not start well. I left home in plenty of time, 2 hrs before my short 1 hr flight (I have permanent TWA pre-check and am 30 min away). And yet I barely made my flight. The garage was full for some inexplicable reason. I drove around again to overflow parking, which was full; drove around again, second overflow had spaces waaaaaaaaaaay at…
I just finished what ended up to be a class sample for a future trapunto class. I just kind of stumbled into this project. I have been working really hard on my yellow silk project that I wrote about here and here. I was getting burned out. I needed a fun frolic of a project. I recently took Kathie Wylie‘s excellent Appliquick class and this was my sample that I wrote about here: My train of thought on my “frolic project”: Oh that applique piece would be fun and easy to finish! Ooooo, I’ll add a silk border. Wellll,…
