I’m currently on a spur-of-the-moment trip to see my new granddaughter, grandson, son and DIL! Being a Gramma is just The Best! I’ll be back next week; not sure of I’ll have time for a newsletter this weekend or not, sorry!
I have a well developed ability to take something simple and make it complex. I got this cute denim dress from Nordie’s Rack online for a very good price. I am redoing my summer wardrobe a bit. My uniform for the last several summers has been easy, sleeveless dresses. Even though I do all kinds of athletic things, my arms are not what they used to be. I decided I needed to cover them up on occasion. So an easy fit, short-sleeved denim dress was at the epicenter of what I could wear on repeat, even when it’s 110. Um,…
I drove over “the hill” (the Sierras) to the Carson City Quilt Guild Show and it was worth it! I knew that the guild had lost a significant source of funding since the last show, so I was surprised at the high caliber of the show. This show really is more like a regional show with quality on the level of almost a Mancuso show. The theme was “It’s a Wild, Wild World of Color” and they really lived up to that theme! I have a few friends up that way plus, I had taught there a few years…
This week’s post is a mix of activities from a guild visit, to a quilt finish and a game changing new product discovery! Let’s start with a visit to La Habra, CA in far northwestern Orange County to spend time with the Friendship Square Quilt Guild. It’s a beautiful city filled with gorgeous flowers and trees. I spent a bit of time before my lecture at Judy’s home and look at those nasturtiums: What a riot of color and beauty! We met for dinner at this iconic restaurant. I didn’t know of it, but hey, it’s been around since…
Last weekend I visited the Roseville Quilters Guild show, one I never miss if I’m in town. It was delightful! I think my interests change over time and that is reflected in what I took photos of. There were some spectacular applique quilts and a really good number of maker quilted quilts. It seemed like a really fresh show, lots of color, newer designs and creative art quilts. So here we go: Feels like spring. Celebrating her anniversary. Couldn’t be any cuter? I love a Jacob’s Ladder quilt; great use of color. Unique color combo makes this a special…
I love my job! I get to travel, meet new people, experience life in places I might not visit on my own, and talk about one of the loves of my life, quilting. Pinch me. This trip did not start well. I left home in plenty of time, 2 hrs before my short 1 hr flight (I have permanent TWA pre-check and am 30 min away). And yet I barely made my flight. The garage was full for some inexplicable reason. I drove around again to overflow parking, which was full; drove around again, second overflow had spaces waaaaaaaaaaay at…
I just finished what ended up to be a class sample for a future trapunto class. I just kind of stumbled into this project. I have been working really hard on my yellow silk project that I wrote about here and here. I was getting burned out. I needed a fun frolic of a project. I recently took Kathie Wylie‘s excellent Appliquick class and this was my sample that I wrote about here: My train of thought on my “frolic project”: Oh that applique piece would be fun and easy to finish! Ooooo, I’ll add a silk border. Wellll,…
It’s quilt show season – can you tell? The Pine Tree Quilt Guild show was last weekend and I think it was their best ever! There was a huge variety of quilts of every genre and I was happy to see a good number of Modern quilts too. I try to limit my posts to 40 quilts but I was spending so much time trying to make that goal that I gave up at 45. Please note, by the time I got to the Mountain Art Quilter’s display, I was just flat pooped out. I didn’t sleep the night…
The theme for the Loomis Quilt and Fiber Guild Show this year was “A Wonderland of Quilts” and it was a colorful show! There were lots of bags and other fiber creations, making it an interesting and varied show. I always have such a hard time culling my photos; I try to keep it to 40 photos because, well…..40! I get angsty as I try to narrow it down. Enjoy the show! BTW, this is not a juried or judged show, no ribbons. Brilliant color! Love the low volume prints and contrast. Beautiful applique. Gorgeous sashiko. Judy used free…
It’s been a week with not a lot to show, even though I’ve been quite busy. I’m planning a family trip to Denver this summer, working on the never-ending beaded piping, entering shows, booking contracts for 2025, finished a secret sewing project and catching up on admin stuff. I decided to show off my yard instead of quilty stuff. This spring has been spectacular with plenty of rain and sunshine and NorCal is just dazzling this year! Except for the first photo of the street in front of my subdivision, these are all in my yard. It’s all about…
