NOTE: I posted all the quilt show photos in this post. Well that was a whirlwind – I taught 4 half day classes, one full day class, did a lecture and presented at the All Star event. I didn’t go outside for 3 solid days! It was my first visit to Branson and I really enjoyed the vibe and my students. My students arrived EARLY for class; I knew I was not in Californiaš I truly had just wonderful students. I received stellar comments, many “best class ever” and high compliments from a long time teacher and Principal. I love…
NOTE: There will be no blog post or newsletter next week as I will be in Branson, Mo for the American Quilter’s Society show. This is my third year to teach at Empty Spools and each year has been uniquely spectacular! I was so delighted by my students – 10 quilters with free motion experience ranging from zero to very experienced, with one student flying in from Florida. And it worked out so well with that mix! There was a moment on the last full day of class when I was getting ready to do a short presentation on…
My trip to Omaha, Nebraska to see the Cottonwood Quilters Guild turned out to have several adventures in one trip and it was a blast! Right out of the gate, I ran into fellow friend and quilter Mary Kay Davis at the Phoenix airport; how cool is that? I arrived in Omaha to a big hug and welcome from Dawwn who put up with me for a few days. We instantly bonded and formed a friendship. She and Hubby took me to my hotel…..which had canceled my reservation, without notification. Long story that I won’t go into. It was…
I posted photos of the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild Show’s Small Quilt room and Wearables last week and I will finish up by posting quilts from the Large Quilt Room. This is in no particular order and of course, there were photos of spectacular quilts that I messed up; but I do have some delightful photos of some of the large quilts here. We have some fabulous talent in our guild and some mighty fine quilting from long armers, computerized, mid-arm and domestic machines. Enjoy: I processed a lot of quilts, photos and description cards, so if I misspelled…
We outdid ourselves; this was our best year yet! There was a lot of new-to-me talent, LOTS of fabulous quilting (hand, digitized, long arm, mid arm and domestic), the most wearables I’ve seen in over a decade and a show stopper Best of Show. I am splitting the show into two posts. As usual I had some clunker photos of really good work; hence no photo. I didn’t know where to cut it off, there was so much lovely work; I have 97 photos in all to post. I truly may have missed some. It is a big task to…
It’s been a week of travel and tying up loose ends. I had a wonderful family trip to El Paso, finished a charity quilt, labeled and sleeved my 2 quilts that will hang in my guild’s upcoming show and got my silk quilt to hang kinda sort straight. And then there’s house stuff that takes me away from the quilting I love to do: new gutters and a sump pump out. I think I will write a book “How to Spend a Zillion Dollars on Your House in 2 Years”. Interesting: 3 of the 4 legs of my travel were…
I had a finish this week! Well, it only has maybe 30 min more work, but I want to share! āShe Could Not Contain Itā will debut at my local guildās show (Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild) in early Feb: She has had an extraordinary journey. She has morphed more times than I can count. She has cause me grief and angst and joy. I have never had a quilt lead ME like this one. There is so much emotion there that I don’t even know yet if I like it. NOTE: This quilt is doneš Please no suggestions on…
I enjoyed a madcap adventure on Dec 26, flying to and from Los Angeles in one day to see The Getty (art museum) and visit the Sewing Arts store. I met with friends made from my earlier visit to the Canyon Quilters of San Diego. What a wonderful adventure! It was a long day, but my energy did not flag and the day was fabulous from beginning to end. I have wanted to visit The Getty for over a decade. While visiting the Canyon Quilters, an idea was floated for a trip to The Getty, capped off with a…
I finished a charity quilt this week – yahoo! I try to do 2 a year, a low bar I know. I do contribute pieces regularly to other causes and try to do 2 for my local guild. I will probably finish the next one before year’s end, but this will be my last post for this year. Last year I decided that charity quilts do not need complex piecing to be useful and pretty. I take 4 or 5 coordinating fabrics and sew random width selvage-to-selvage strips together to form the top: It’s very happy/cheery! Yes, it could have…
