My trip to the Bits ‘n’ Pieces Quilt Guild in Ballwin, MO (the St. Louis area) was quite the adventure! My lecture, “The Beauty of the Imperfect” got an outstanding reception and it was very well attended. IMperfection is a topic near and dear to my heart: I taught both days at a faaaabulous shop, Jackman’s. Oh my, it was huge AND they had exquisite garment fabrics. Since I didn’t have a specific project in mind, I held off. But lookie: What a color wall! And I met their famous IG star, Oliver, who deigned to do a selfie…
I got up this morning and realized I had forgotten to write a blog post. Then I realized – I had nothing to write about! It’s been a busy week of prep for future and upcoming events, software issues and not much else. I’ve been writing this blog since 2010 and have never forgotten to create a post before! NOTE: I will be traveling next week and will not publish a blog post or newsletter. I will have a newsletter this week. I’ll have lots to write about when I return as I will be visiting the Bits and…
I have a real challenge on my hands with my vintage quilt. Just to refresh your memory, this is the top I’m working on: And it has had its share of challenges. It is a bit wonky and it has some, um, creative piecing: I suspect the maker was close to running out of border fabric. I will tidy those intersections up later. I knew I had this problem coming, but I chose to ignore it: There is not enough fabric on the left hand portion for it to accommodate the same width border as the rest of the quilt.…
I headed back to Denver for a family reunion, the second time to visit the Denver area in 10 days. I spent 16 out of July’s 31 days traveling, all of it fabulous, but boy I am happy to be home! The family reunion was wonderful. In attendance were my sister and Hubby, Son, DIL and grandson, my youngest son and new girlfriend(!!) plus Hubby and me. Hubby and I opted to drive. We filled the ice chest to the brim with pre-made food: It doesn’t look like much, but that big ice chest was filled to the brim with salads,…
It was a whirlwind trip in 3 parts, all of it fabulous! I taped 3 segments with Quilting Arts TV first, hosted by the fabulous Susan Brubaker Knapp. Oh how I wish I had taken more photos!! I will get more photos as they are edited, but I only have a few for this post, dang. All told, there is a staff of maybe 12 people there to make you look good. It is hard work for all of us. I had no angst about taping as I have done it before and I love to share what I do.…
NOTE: I will have a newsletter this week, but may or may not have a blog post or newsletter next week. Then I will be back in town for a bit, finally! My newsletter really is the epicenter of my communication; you can sign up easy peasy here. I could already write a long essay on “What I did on my Summer vacation”! July is usually my down month, but this one has by far been my busiest. I need to post about: – the Long Beach Quilt Festival – my Quilting Arts TV taping in Golden, CO – my…
NOTE: I am playing catch up and I am way behind. I am not sure if I am going to be able to post for the next 3 weeks. Next week will be big time prep for Long Beach (July 5 – 9, my travel dates) and then fly out 2 days later for a Quilting Arts TV taping in the Denver area. Who knows how much I will be able to post. Finally, I have a kitchen! This week has been very intense, spending 4 full days with my Organizer, but it is pretty much done. I am…
I had a fun visit to Amador County, “Gold Country”. It takes about an hour on mostly 2 lane roads to get to Pioneer, CA. The drive was so pretty – lots of flowers, a bit of still green grass and fields of grazing cattle. But no photos while I was driving! The grass has not been incinerated yet by triple digits so it almost looked like early spring. And for once, I remembered to take photos of the lecture and workshop!! This was a really good turn out and I got a strongly positive reaction to “The Beauty…
What a week! I taught at Meissner Main and at the Independence Hall Quilters in Arnold, CA and, I took a sashiko class at Meissner Folsom – whew! It was all fun. I taught Yes You CAN Free Motion Quilt! at both Meissner Main and to the Independence Hall Quilters in Arnold, CA. Meissner’s had a small and mighty class. Everyone was so well prepared, well machined and enthusiastic! It makes it easy and fun to teach such a great group. I also visited the Independence Hall Quilters in Arnold, CA for the day. I have never done this…
I have just had a blast quilting my vintage quilt top! These six things made the quilting process so much easier. You may not need these items for every quilt, but for this quilt, each one was helpful. It’s taking a LOT longer to finish this quilt than anticipated. Here we go: Basting with water soluble thread This was a vintage top and there were some challenges with wonky seams and such. It did not lay flat. I was committed to honoring the maker by not remaking it into a quilt that met modern technical standards. So I had…
