I had some fun quilting this week. I wanted a redo on a cutwork piece I’d done recently. I’ve taught it virtually and the class went very well but as I pondered my class sample, I decided I wanted to improve it. It was a bit of a risk, but it turned out well and proved my theory. I wanted to have more open cutwork space to better define the shapes, so I gave it a try: The class sample seemed a little dense with too much fabric; it needed more open space. It looked a little blobby to…
We’re going into another shut down here again, sigh. I just taught a delightful class at Meissner’s Main Store and was thinking how wonderful it was to teach in person again. Of course I forgot to take photos. This was a fun class, on Veteran’s Day, with a great mix of students including 2 sisters and a Hubby from one family. And every student was a veteran or raised a veteran – wow! Some had experienced grievous injuries. I am deeply thankful for all of you who served. It has been a busy week with 2 lectures and 3…
So lucky me, I got to see real art, in person this week – what a treat! I viewed the Wayne Thiebaud exhibit, “Thiebaud 100, Paintings,Prints and Drawings” on display at the Crocker Art Museum. I had to make a reservation to enter the museum and because of restrictions, there were few people there. What a delight! I was able to linger over each painting and not feel rushed. Before I show some his art I want to first show a blast from the past: My local quilt guild, the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild, formed a small group…
I finally just decided I was tired of festering over what to do with my trapunto bubble quilt. I loooove feathers, so I did a little sketch just to get a taste of what it might look like if I feathered it: Funny how the tiny filler bubbles define the feathers so much more than the micro-stipple does. That kind of surprised me. It will be a pain to fill in all the negative space but look at how it defines and enhances the feather! Step two was to do a bit of sketching on a piece of vinyl laid…
I’m having fun with this baby stuff! Baby quilts are so quick to make. I have this cartoon in my head that my son and DIL will arrive for Thanksgiving in their Subaru Outback and leave pulling a 15′ trailer full of baby things that Gramma made, LOL! I think I need to pump the brakes, but hey, I said the same thing last week. This week’s output: Isn’t that the cutest stinkin’ panel? It’s all pre-printed so no piecing there. And it’s got a little lion, tee hee. I love those cute little happy elephants! Total coincidence that there…
It’s not surprising that I have Baby on my mind. I’ve kinda gone overboard on this, you’ll see what I mean. It started so innocently…. I got this panel at Meissner Folsom, cute huh? It’s for taking photos as Baby grows. You put Baby down in the lower left-hand corner and put something around the proper words or numbers like 4th week or 36 days or 3 months, etc. I was so intent squaring it up that I cut off the “3” but I will drop back in with a marker and make it look like “I meant to do…
When the world began to change, I quickly realized I was going to have to adapt or go home. So adapt I did, kicking and screaming. Now that we’re 7 months into this I am accepting that our current norm may stick around for a long while. This week’s casualty was the in-person Road to California show which on Wed announced it will be entirely virtual as opposed the the hybrid they had proposed. Sigh. Do you not looooong for a real quilt show? This week I have come to a deeper realization that there are some positive outcomes from…
It’s been a productive week but I don’t have a lot in the way of visuals to document the week. I have some Really Big News that I can’t talk about yet that I’m both pumped and terrified of (it has something to do with the Houston Quilt Festival). I’ll write about it as soon as I can. I had a fabulous experience this week that lifted a HUGE weight off of my shoulders. I had a total of 14 videos that needed editing, videos that ranged from 3 – 11 minutes. They needed some bits snipped out, a bunch…
Last week I wrote about how my friend and dyer Linda Waddle kindly offered to over-dye my languishing whole cloth trapunto quilt. The silk had faded from a delightful icy blue to a putrid yellow/blue/gray mix. Linda and I rolled on thickened dye as a Hail Mary move – what did I have to lose? Here are the results: The silk took the dye well. You just can’t see it in my photo but it is a wee bit splotchy but I am fine with that and I think it adds interest. I had to have Hubby hold it up…
