A this ‘n that week

By Jenny | July 3, 2025 |

NOTE: I probably will not post next week; the week of the 17th I should be able to, then a 2-week hiatus as I travel. Quilty wise it’s been a varied week. I was able to attend the monthly Babylock Sashiko machine workshop with Ellen Schmidt at Meissner Folsom and we did this: Let me explain. Ellen did the quilt-the-design-on-paper-with-a-naked-needle thing; then we pounced it upon our project. Ellen provided the stabilized background. I didn’t have any light thread with me; this would have turned out better with a higher contrast thread. But I love this! All it needs is…

UFO’s – I’m not so sure they all need to be finished

By Jenny | June 26, 2025 |

I have a  few UFO’s (Unfinished Objects) hanging around that are talking to me. I am project-oriented. I like to finish what I start and I don’t usually have a high head count of UFO’s. But I’m thinking differently these days. Do all those UFO’s really need to be finished? I’m kinda thinking not. I went through my photos and have a few less-than-stellar quilts that I finished because I felt like I should. In all fairness, sometimes you don’t realize it’s good until you finish. And, I have a few UFO’s that I don’t think are worth the…

Two guilds and an unexpected adventure

By Jenny | June 19, 2025 |

I had a lovely week with visits to 2 guilds! I began the week with a Monday flight into San Diego for a visit with the El Camino Quilters in Oceanside (far north San Diego County) for a Tues AM lecture and Wed half day workshop. It is a beautiful area, even though it was “June Gloom” and overcast much of the time I was there. I didn’t realize what “far north San Diego County” meant; I thought I might be able to visit the Visions Museum in San Diego. Not! It is quite far from Oceanside. The plane…

Dress shopping….

By Jenny | June 5, 2025 |

NOTE: I have worn myself out; I am not looking for suggestions or stores or websites. Please don’t extend my misery with another place to look😊 ANOTHER NOTE: I may not post next week as I have a Tue/Wed travel gig to SoCal. I just can’t seem to catch up. I have done no sewing this week, but I did accomplish something – I found a dress for my son’s Oct Tucson wedding…maybe. To be clear, I am not sure it is The One, but if not, it’s pretty close. I want to explain why I’m making such a…

Beginning of Summer glory, 2025

By Jenny | May 29, 2025 |

It’s been an impossibly busy week with my “secret project” consuming my days. I have no quilty things to show, so rather than ghost you again, I chose to share my yard. Full disclosure, it’s large for a suburban yard and I have a maintenance service to help. It is just glorious this year! I had to share. I’ve even got bloomers inside: I will have cut peonies (store bought) until the season is over. I just love these showy little hussies. Moving to the outdoor plantings… I won’t comment or identify each one, just the ones I feel…

Sierra Gold Quilt Guild and life around the Lyon house

By Jenny | May 22, 2025 |

NOTE: I usually let my readers know when I won’t be publishing my weekly blog post. Last week took me by surprise. I taught/lectured on Tues/Wed and arrived home at dinner time on Wed. I was thinking oh, I could put together a post by the morning. Huh? No way! I needed to unpack and decompress so that I could sleep; there was no time to write a blog post! What was I thinking? Given that I didn’t have a blog post I decided to skip my newsletter, also without warning. I have to say I was grateful for the break.…

AQS Paducah, 2025, Part 2 – the people, teaching, the show quilts

By Jenny | May 8, 2025 |

This is another photo-rich post of the Paducah show, teaching and the people. Let’s start with the people: Before I even got to the show, I learned a thing or two about rental cars – they may not have a car for you, even if you have a reservation! I waited over an hour (some waited longer) in an area without seating or places to charge your phone at the Nashville airport. Travel just gets more and more exciting as time goes on. When you arrive at the show, you are greeted by a team of helpful greeters who…

Paducah – the city, the porches, the food, Yeiser Art Center and the National Quilt Museum

By Jenny | May 1, 2025 |

NOTE: This 1,400 word, 50 photo post is about one afternoon and one morning in Paducah! Paducah, Kentucky is a beautiful town, with great food, beautiful porches, unique shopping and lots of art. You might not expect all that to exist in a town in far west Kentucky with a population of 26,000. It is a fabulous place to visit! The entire town embraces the influx of visitors to Quilt Week and the Show. I enjoyed incredible dining while there, including a delightful dinner at the nationally renowned Freight House as well as a delicious Thai restaurant. Oh my, spectacular…

A busy this ‘n that week!

By Jenny | April 10, 2025 |

This was a busy week of this ‘n that. I did figure out a better way to hold a weight in the bottom of my yellow silk quilt (“Tree of Life”) quilt, courtesy of Susan from Canada, a reader of my newsletter. What? You don’t get my weekly newsletter? I always include my weekly blog post, upcoming events, a Quilt of the Week, usually an article about an interesting artist aaaaaand, the ever popular Snort Laugh of the Week. You can sign up here if you’d like. She suggested a thin plexiglass slat – perfect! I actually had it made…

The San Francisco Quilters Guild Show – 2025

By Jenny | April 3, 2025 |

It’s high season for spring quilt shows! I attended the San Francisco Quilters Guild Show last weekend and what an amazing show it was. I got see the 2023 show with Joe Cunningham as the Guest Artist and I remembered the fabulous venue and great quilts, so I was keen to see this year’s show. The guild itself is 250+ strong. The SFQG show was held at the Event Center of St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Cathedral and grounds takes up an entire block in one of the most lovely areas of the city. This is the best venue I…
