Hubby and I took a few days off and headed to Lake Tahoe. I hope to return rejuvinated and relaxed. Til next week….
Yes, I’m still writing-it seems like forever now. I am excited about what I am writing but this is a lot of work. Lucky me though, I got to take an afternoon off to go to the Bay Area and see my son and DIL! Isn’t that lovely? She planned for an afternoon of cruising in the lagoon on an electric boat. She planned, made and brought a lovely assort of hors d’oeuvres, deserts and wine. It was just the best time! My son being pretentious… We call him Clark-remember Clark Griswold from Vacation? That’s him. In the meantime, I…
As I thought about what to write about this week I realized that much of what I’ve been doing is making samples for my book and writing. I thought I’d share a short post on what it feels like to write a book. I’ll bet what I am experiencing is almost predictable-the ups and the looooong downs! One fun thing has been that I’ve had to purchase more fabric. I know, I know, such trauma! I get to play with my new stash for one of my projects. And another project. I’m using this as my starter to keep the…
I get excited about the California State Fair! I love state fairs and think I’ve been to Fairs in 6 states. It’s perhaps a cheesy, expensive and dying event, but how can you resist fried food, blazing heat and every type of person in one place? It is almost always unbearably hot since it’s held in July, but it was a balmy 92 for me this year. The Fine Arts and the Crafts buildings are the first places I visit-gotta see the art and quilts! Near the entrance there are two golden bears and there are always some cute kids…
I’m still writing my book which makes for a dull girl! I did get out to the Northern California Quilting Council‘s Meet the Teachers event in Pleasant Hill, Ca last Saturday. We are very fortunate in California to have 2 major organizations that bring teachers together with the shops and guilds that might be interested in hiring them. A Meet the Teachers event is held once a year in Southern California through the Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds and NCQC holds 3 Meet the Teacher events each year. The event was very well organized by Sherry Werum. Each of…
I am blessed with exuberant health, something I do all I can to maintain. I am just now recovering from 10 days of itchy, oozy, outrageously strong allergies. It was allergies, trust me. And I’ll spare you the details, but I couldn’t talk, think or sleep for many days. But, I am back and it feels so good to be normal again! I did work a good bit on my book. It is coming along but you never know you’re going to make deadline until that draft is completed. I think I’m okay, but I don’t know what I don’t…
I have so little to show! I’m working on my book, so spending lots of time on that, none of it photo-worthy. And the projects for the book, well they can’t be published. I’ve got a short post here as a result. I have some great teaser photos…and a new computer, hence the delay. A lot of time has been consumed integrating all my old stuff onto the new CPU. At least I’ve got a few teaser photos to share: A little bit of ruler work… A little bit of whimsy… It’s always fun to work with new materials… I…
“Focus on Fiber” is a national juried open fiber arts show that accepts all fiber techniques and is housed at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. It is showing in conjunction with the Korean Fiber exhibit that I wrote about last week. It was an interesting show given its variety in technique, form and fiber. I didn’t take a whole lot of photos and some were impossibly poor given the lighting in the room. This piece was so intriguing and unique. I loved the juxtaposition of the 3 figures upon the spare and ghost-like background. Same artist. It makes me think…
I completely forgot it was Thursday-sorry for the late post! I am running as fast as I can… Today I am writing about the Korean fiber exhibit, but please note that there is a fabulous and concurrent annual exhibit “Voices in Fiber”. I am simply unable to cover both in this post, so look for a future post on that. I was delighted to be able to visit the Sacramento Fine Arts Center and view their most recent exhibit “Korean Voices in Fiber”. The exhibit was co-curated by Misik Kim and Mirka Knaster, with Youngmin Lee as laison. The exhibit highlights the ancient heritage…
Almost two years ago I wrote my most popular post-a comprehensive explanation of Frixion pens, the heat erasable pens. For some reason there has been a huge flurry of repostings lately along with comments from readers about their experiences. You can read the post here if you’d like. I contacted the manufacturer when I wrote the article, so it is the real deal. I get comments from readers that by using this or that, they were able to get the marks out. Know this: if you happened to get the marks out permanently, I’m thrilled for you! But, it’s a fluke! The best…
